Lent at St Andrew's
Lent began with services on Ash Wednesday at Los Boliches and Alhaurin. Our service at Alhaurin had one or two ‘hiccups’ not least that we lost all power to our sound system, hence we forgot to take any photos, but we were delighted to welcome Rev Keith Kimber to his first service with us this visit.
At both services Keith introduced us to the course he has prepared for us to use during Lent. ‘Psalms of Lament and the Way of the Cross’. There will be a reflection at each Wednesday Communion Service followed by a discussion over coffee afterwards or for those who prefer the chance to receive the material online and the opportunity to discuss via Zoom on a Thursday at midday. If you would like to receive the information via email or join in the Zoom discussions please contact Caroline.
Joan Gordon Smith - A sad goodbye
On 8th February on a very wet and windy day, friends and family gathered to say farewell to our dear friend Joan.

Joan had been a much loved and valued member of the Alhaurin congregation for many years and in more recent months at Sensara. Joan will be missed by family and friends not only here but across the world. A link to the Eulogy read at Joan’s funeral can be found here.

Fun and Games
On Friday 10th February, 25 of us gathered for a fun afternoon of table games and a high tea organised by Margaret Jones and Diane Bloor at Los Boliches.

A gale was blowing outside, but it did not deter these “I’m not really competitive” ( Oh yeah) members of the church, but it was all good fun!

At the end, Jane Datoo was the Gold medal prize winner with Ann Blanchard earning Silver and Caroline MacFarlane winning Bronze. As for Sheila Allison, the wooden  spoon will be very useful for her kitchen skills!!

It was a great afternoon, as we changed around every ten minutes with table games ranging from Snakes and Ladders to Yatze and at the end of the afternoon we had raised €428.50!

World Day of Prayer
On 2nd March we celebrated World Day of Prayer at Los Boliches.

Formerly called Womens‘ World Day of Prayer it is a service prepared every year by women from countries around the world; this year it was prepared by the Christian women of Taiwan.
Rev William Small worked with Lux Mundi to prepare the service, involving women from our congregation along with others from the Finnish and Swedish church.

We are grateful to TIMS who provided musical backing to the well known hymns.

An offering of €117.50 was taken up and sent to the World Day of Prayer offices based in Tunbridge Wells to continue with their excellent work.
Benalmádena get together
Folks from the former Benalmádena congregation meet together twice a week.

On Fridays they meet at Domanda’s in the Gamonal. It was a great reunion on 3rd March, which included Sue Brooke, who doesn’t come regularly, and seven 'swallows': Barbara, Marilyn, Randy and Wayne from Canada, Nick and Genny from Swindon, and Paul from Leamington Spa. We also celebrated John le Page’s birthday. A lovely occasion on a beautiful morning.
When we met for coffee on 3rd of March it a bit special, it was the birthday of our great friend, John Le Page MBE.

For 26 years he was a Captain in the Church Army in Jersey where he achieved recognition for his work in many capacities, helping the homeless being very close to his heart. Therefore we were delighted to get to know him and Carole when they came to live here in 2004, to retire !!!!.  No, he was having none of that! They became very involved with the 'Songs of Praise' in Benalmadena and John became part of the Ministry team at St Andrews. They also took to feeding the homeless in Los Boliches, which 'bless him' he is still doing.

Unfortunately, the years are catching up with him and his Ministry work has come to an end but, unless he has a Dr 's appointment he never misses Church or coffee mornings. Dear John, we love you.  Happy Birthday!

Chaplaincy AGM
The Chaplaincy AGM will take place on Sunday 16th April at Los Boliches following the Sunday Service which will be at 11.00am to allow time for the meeting.

Please note there will be no service at Calahonda or Alhaurin on that day. We hope that as many people, who are on the electoral roll, as possible will join us for this important meeting. Elections will take place for Churchwardens, Synod Reps and Council Members. If you would like to consider standing for any of these positions, please speak to any member of the Council who can explain what is involved.
