We are excited to announce a new video series featuring Ajahn Amaro, a renowned Buddhist teacher, author, and abbot of Amaravati Monastery in England.
Ajahn Amaro has been a disciple of the Thai Forest Tradition of Theravada Buddhism for over forty years, and has trained under some of the most respected meditation masters of our time. He is known for his engaging and accessible teachings, which draw on both traditional Buddhist wisdom and contemporary insights.
Amaravati Monastery is a beautiful and peaceful place nestled in the countryside of Hertfordshire, England. Now a thriving monastic community in the tradition of Ajahn Chah, it was founded in 1984 by Ajahn Sumedho, one of Ajahn Amaro's mentors, and has since become a well-respected center for Buddhist practice and meditation. Ajahn Amaro has been a resident of the monastery for over 20 years and has contributed greatly to its growth and development. We are thrilled to have him share his wisdom with such warmth, humor, and pragmatism through these videos!
In A Buddhist Guide to Living Simply Ajahn Amaro shares his insights into the Buddhist idea of renunciation, saying that while it involves letting go of attachments, it is not about rejecting the world or withdrawing from it, but rather about developing a deep sense of inner freedom and contentment in simplicity.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in a monastery? In Daily Life in a Buddhist Monastery, Ajahn Amaro offers a glimpse into a day in the life of a monastic, from early morning meditation sessions to late evening rituals, and explains how the cycles of the moon affect their activities.
In The Eightfold Path Explained, Ajahn Amaro gives an overview of the eightfold path, which he calls the principal means of putting the Buddhist teachings into action. This path of ethics, mind-training and wisdom protects and guides us in all aspects of our daily lives and offers a comprehensive approach to living life according to the Buddha's teachings.
