When lost in brooding about how someone has annoyed you, remember a phrase used by members of Recovery International: ‘People do things that annoy me, not to annoy me.’ When you remove intentionality it’s easier to shrug at the everyday annoyances of life.

Try: Email the phrase to yourself, put it on the fridge (well, depending on who you’re living with) or think of someone annoying and see if it applies to them.

Yesterday's Daily Bell
The film An Cailín Ciúin (The Quiet Girl) has been an unexpected success in Ireland and abroad. In Gaelic, ciúineas is defined as ‘a calm, a silence … patience.’ (pronounced  ‘cue-ness’ - stress on ‘cue’). It’s a good word to use to pause, to come into yourself so to speak, and be silent for a while.

Try: Say ‘ciúineas’ when you want to quieten or slow your thoughts.

*Definition from Rev Patrick Dinneen’s Irish-English Dictionary, 1904.
