Spring is coming....

Hopefully this finds you well.

I must admit it’s been a pretty mild winter here in Maine. Enough snow but not too much, one rally really cold snap but other than that, not too bad.

Always nice when the days get a little longer and the weather seems to be going in the right direction, summer bound.

Looking forward to the Summer Workshops

Had a delightful workshop last weekend in Jackson NH, a pretty spot in the midst of the White Mountains.

The workshop addressed “The Figure in the Landscape”.

I came away with some different ideas on how to better handle my future workshops. It seems as if students would prefer a more specific workshop versus just a plein air class. I always push design, seeing that it is the foundation that we build upon but have decided to restructure my summer classes with this in mind.

So the first workshop on July 10-13 Monday thru Thursday will still be a plein air class. This workshop will be focusing on the importance of the LIGHT PATTERNS, which are a big part of any painting. Accurately capturing the effects of the light, be it with temperature and color vibration of the edges. Really delving into what makes them sing and how to use them to our advantage.

The second plein air workshop July 31- Aug 2, again Monday thru Thursday, will be addressing how to better understand our SHADOW PATTERNS and the role that they play. How to utilize them for the benefit of our design as well as maximizing our light impact. They too are a very big part of getting our light to sing as well as a huge part of the overall construct of our painting.

The Advanced class will be just that, covering all of the above, plus taking it a bit deeper, as well as what it takes to get to the next level of our evolution as an artist.

We will always deal with design in all of the classes and students will be taught according to their specific needs and desires.

Saying Farewell to Winter

I will be headed to Jeffersonville VT this weekend for the Winter Rendezvous, which is kind of the final winter painting activity for the season.

As well as getting out on occasion, I have been spending a lot of time in the studio. Finishing up pieces from this past summer and exploring new pieces for the up and coming season.

A couple of new things will be happening this year.

In April I will be joining Reinert Fine Art Gallery in Charleston SC, which will be nice to be a part of that particular gallery as well as the International energetic gallery scene in Charleston.

I have been highly inspired by the Cape Ann Art Influence for many years so naturally I am delighted to be invited into the Ken Knowles Gallery of Fine Art in Rockport MA. Happy to be part of that wonderful legacy of art!

In May I’ll be headed to Tuscany to painting the Italian hillsides, brush up on my Italian, and have a change of pace before the summer coastal scenes begin again.

In August I will be having a Solo Show at the Granite Gallery in Tenants Harbor. Please stop by if you are in the area.

More details to come as we get into the season.
