Spotlight on Responding Well

New safeguarding data for 2019-2021 has recently been published by the Church of England, revealing that there has been a clear increase in reports of domestic abuse and a greater awareness of spiritual abuse. We want people to be able to talk about their experiences at church and to ensure that anyone who hears them is able to respond well.

It is estimated that domestic abuse affects 1 in 3 women and 1 in 7 men. We will therefore all know people who are victims and perpetrators of domestic abuse. The data will enable the Church to identify significant or emerging issues to inform planning at a national and strategic level.

Hidden Voices – taster course
Empowering churches and communities to respond to modern slavery.

Some people might ask What can churches and communities do about modern slavery? The truth is local people are key to solving this puzzle. For starters, they can spot the signs of modern slavery and help the police to find victims. They can prevent vulnerable people they work with, like the homeless, from being trafficked or exploited.

This taster course seeks to awaken in churches a passion for working with their communities and responding to the needs of the vulnerable and marginalised. It describes a simple process that helps to build community, with the church acting as a catalyst.
