Yaniv Feller Receives Association for Jewish Studies Jordan Schnitzer First Book Publication Award

Yaniv Feller, Ph.D., Assistant Professor in the Department of Religion and Center for Jewish Studies, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, has received the 2023 Jordan Schnitzer First Book Publication Award from the Association for Jewish Studies for his book, The Jewish Imperial Imagination: Leo Baeck and German-Jewish Thought.

The learning tool includes both synchronous and asynchronous options such as polling, quizzing, and assignments, and seamlessly integrates with Canvas. Regardless of class size or delivery method, iClicker can help instructors increase attendance and participation, provide instant feedback, and identify knowledge gaps in real-time.

The Career Connections Center invites the UF community to its annual Faculty and Staff Career Symposium on April 28, 2023, from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. This year attendees will explore the theme “Experience Reimagined: Bridging Curriculum to Career for a Future-Ready Workforce,” considering the many and varied connections between curriculum, career, and experiences inside and outside of the classroom that support student success. Everyday UDL: Practical classroom & mentorship strategies that also enact DEI

Universal design for learning (UDL) is a transformative instructional approach that, in its adoption, exposes fundamental biases in traditional curricula. However, implementation of UDL principles, in its intentional consideration of diverse learner characteristics remediates such fundamental biases. We will present principles of UDL, share simple strategies for its implementation in classroom, advising, and mentorship contexts, and discuss practicalities of shifting our instructional framework from traditional instructional practices to adoption of a student-asset framework through UDL practices that intentionally consider diverse learner characteristics.
Creating Global Classrooms Through Virtual Exchange

Join this workshop to discover how to turn your class into a global classroom. Through virtual exchange, faculty can connect their UF classes with students and faculty abroad to collaborate on assignments, acquire global perspectives on course-related material, and develop intercultural competence skills. In the 2021-2022 academic year, over 1,400 UF students took courses that incorporated international virtual exchange activities in a variety of disciplines. This workshop will help you discover different types of virtual exchange projects and will connect you to trainings and resources to get you started.

Imagine you are giving the best presentation of your career. Your verbal delivery is captivating and masterfully choreographed with slide visuals and props that are attention grabbing, easy to understand, and even moving. This is what it means to use presentation visuals in a way that is worthy of the TED stage. In this course, participants will learn about the common mistakes presenters make with their presentation visuals, gain insights into the way the human brain best processes information while experiencing a presentation, leverage visual techniques for making your content resonate and stick, use next-level techniques to plan a visual presentation, analyze examples from some of the worlds best presenters, and apply key design principles. This course is helpful for both novice and even highly seasoned presenters. Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop to this session to engage in hands-on design work activities in small groups.

Transforming Education Through AI - April 6th
|
|
|
On April 6th, 2023, UF’s College of Education and Institute for Advanced Learning Technologies will bring together 16 top researchers in the fields of Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Learning Sciences and Instructional Design, and Computational Psychometrics to discuss the latest developments in the field of artificial intelligence.
Special guests include the first three NSF-funded AI Research Institutes to discuss their foci and accomplishments over the past three years. The AI Institute for Student-AI Teaming (iSAT), the Engage AI Institute, and the AI Institute for Adult Learning and Online Education (AI-ALOE), each received approximately $20M to design, develop, and evaluate AI tools that can improve learning in various levels of education.
Additional participating entities include three well-known learning companies that use AI in their products— Duolingo, Khan Academy, and ASSISTments — as well as 10 top scientists whose work has been nationally and internationally recognized. Attendees will gather to share and to discuss important topics around AI and its application in Education.
