Friends. How Many of Us Have Them?

I'm not a fan of changing the clocks to and from Daylight Saving. I think it's preposterous that we'll all walk around like jet-lagged zombies this week in order to get an extra hour of sunlight throughout the summer. I complain about it every year, to the point where my friends call me an old man.

One friend in particular makes fun of me more than anyone else. We actually look forward to the time change so we can banter back and forth about how much I dislike the time change.

This year, that friend is in the hospital. He had his gallbladder removed after a really scary trip to the ER and several days in the ICU. He's on the mend now, but things were dicey for several days.

I've been friends with this guy since 4th grade. And like clock work (pun intended), we joke about the time change. He's also the first person I connect with when anything major happens in the world. And it's been that way for almost 40 years.

So the thought of not being able to connect with him scared the hell out of me. I've taken for granted that he'll always be there because, well, he's always been there.

So, this is reminder number 4,205 that it's important for us to connect with those we care about, and it's more important to tell them how much they mean to us. There will come a day when we won't be in each others' lives. Let's do our best to appreciate each other until that day comes.

Make it a great day!
