Canada and Prince Edward Island invest in new building for UPEI Faculty of Medicine |

The following news release was issued on March 2, 2023, by the Government of Canada, the Government of Prince Edward Island, and the University of Prince Edward Island.
Today, the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities, the Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the Honourable Dennis King, Premier of Prince Edward Island, Sean Casey, Member of Parliament for Charlottetown, Heath MacDonald, Member of Parliament for Malpeque, Robert Morrissey, Member of Parliament for Egmont, the Honourable Ernie Hudson, Minister of Health and Wellness, the Honourable Cory Deagle, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, the Honourable Natalie Jameson, Minister of Education and Lifelong Learning, and Dr. Greg Keefe, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Prince Edward Island, announced more than $48.8 million in joint funding for the new health education building that will house the new Faculty of Medicine on the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) campus.

The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) Men’s Hockey Panthers hosted seven of the best amateur hockey teams in the country during the U SPORTS 2023 Cavendish Farms University Cup Men’s Hockey Championship from March 15–19, 2023, at the Eastlink Centre, Charlottetown. The event was deemed a huge success by organizers.

- Priscilla Ellis (BSc'02, DVM'06) and her husband Dana, have opened a new pet supplies business in O’Leary, West Prince Animal Supplies (The Employment Journey).
- Jenene Wooldridge (BA'04) wrote an opinion piece, "Ending systemic racism isn't just about institutional reform — it starts with us" (CBC PEI).
- Darrell Glenn (BA'95) was featured in an article by Saltwire highlighting how his approach to coaching at UPEI extends far beyond basketball (Saltwire).
- Wayne Proude (PWC'58) is retiring from the shoe business after 65 years (Saltwire).
- Thelma MacDonald (PWC'56), who was the first female mayor in the Town of Souris from 1988 to 1990, spoke about the power of women in the community (The Eastern Graphic).
- Charlene Zakem (BA'93, BEd'94) was the recipient of the 2023 “AG"cellent Teacher award, which is an award that "goes to the teacher who is dedicated to their students, demonstrates excellence in their classroom, and shows true leadership in #AgEducation" (Agriculture In The Classroom PEI).
