MetropolCon will take place from May 18 to 20, 2023 at the silent green Kulturquartier in Berlin. We are featured in their event calendar.

THE PROGRAM IS ONLINE!

Go to the Program Section on our Website to view the preliminary program schedule and search for your favorites. Behind the scenes we are still working on finalizing the last talks and readings, adding details and fixing bugs. So feel free to continue to check back regularly.

We are also currently working on the virtual program magazine, which we will make available for download as a PDF - including detailed descriptions that will whet your appetite for individual talks, discussion rounds, and workshops even more, as well as additional content from our speakers.

FREE TICKETS

We can also offer tickets free of charge for those who could not easily afford attending otherwise. This offer is funded by donations of several generous attendees.

Please spread the word!

Location

We would love to introduce our Location to you. Our venue is silent green Kulturquartier, a former crematorium that has been transformed into a vibrant arena for culture, music, art, and events. Check out the amazing architecture, their catering, and the all-around fabulousness of the place.

We have 6 program rooms: “Kuppelhalle” (=dome hall), “Atelier” (=studio) 1-4 and “Kino” (=cinema). In addition, there is a bar, an outdoor area, and a spacious dealers’ and exhibition hall, which also has space for signing and game tables and also hosts a few program items.

Easily accessible: public transport is close by, with city train and underground station “Wedding” only minutes away (S41/42, U6) as well as buses that take you straight from the stop “Müllerstraße” to the main train station “Hauptbahnhof” (Bus 120/147). You can find all local connections on the BVG website, or download their app for easy movement within Berlin.

Program News

We are happy to announce that Alexa and Alexander Waschkau are part of MetropolCon 2023. Together, the couple runs the skeptical podcast Hoaxilla. The project has existed since 2010, and focuses on the rational explanation of myths, legends, and lore, whether historical or modern/urban. Debunking pseudo and parascientific stories and conspiracy narratives from a scientific-critical perspective is the Waschkaus’ calling.
They will talk about "Conspiracy Myths in Fantasy and Science Fiction" on Friday morning.

Already on Thursday (and only on Thursday!), we welcome Christian von Aster, the dark-robed multitalent writer with a thing for googly eyes, the creator of the Midnight Bouncy Castle and Patchouli’s Witnesses …
Together with Bernhard Hennen and Janika Rehak, Christian will take part in a panel about fairy tales of different cultures. Together with Ann-Kathrin Karschnick, he will talk about Patreon, crowdfunding and other current possibilities for authors to finance their creative output. Both are also part of the PAN evening reading extravaganza.

On Saturday we welcome Professor Dr. Metin Tolan, the president of the Georg-August-University Göttingen, who will give a talk about Star Trek physics.

So you see, every day of MetropolCon is worth a visit! For those who are short of time, there are of course also day tickets available.

International Guests

But of course we also want to highlight our international guests once again:
In addition to Hugo winner Mary Robinette Kowal, T.L. Huchu (who received the African Speculative Fiction Society's 2022 Nommo Award), we´re expecting US filmmaker Hal Schneider.

Furthermore, Julie Nováková from the Czech Republic will be at MetropolCon, who is bringing her hot-off-the-presses anthology Life beyond us as a co-editor with the European Astrobiology Institute.

We are looking forward to Dilman Dila, SF author and filmmaker from Uganda. His participation was made possible by a donation from the Science Fiction Club Deutschland e.V. SFCD, with additional support from the Science Fiction Writers of America SFWA.

Thanks for your attention, that's it from us today, happy planning!
