FUN DAY AT CAMP LAKEWOOD

Sunday, May 7  |  2:30-6:30 pm

Did you know Camp Lakewood, one of our UMC summer camps, is only a half-hour drive up north? Join us for this firsthand experience by spending an afternoon at camp with a tour at 3:00 pm, camp activities, and even a cookout for dinner. This experience is completely free and everyone is invited to join us!

We have two goals for our Camp Fun Day.
  1. Increase families’ awareness of our camping ministries and their comfort levels so that children can be a part of summer camp.
  2. Increase our intentionality with intergenerational ministries, which YOU, the congregation, have expressed a desire for

This is accomplished not only by everyone joining us at camp but also by being a part of our mentoring program. We will partner the children in our ministry with an adult in the congregation to mentor and encourage them as they grow up. It takes a village to raise a child, and the more encouragement in their faith they receive, the greater the likelihood that they will remain rooted in their faith as they grow older.

This program will begin with our preschool-1st grade Sunday School class and build from there, which means that to start, we need 15 people who will commit to being a mentor. This is only a small time commitment every week/month and will be an incredibly rewarding experience. Write your kiddo a note every month, take a few minutes to hear about their week on Sunday morning, or get them candy or stickers to show you’re thinking of them. Simple things make a significant impact on our children.

If you want to get plugged in this way, connect with Ally Musselman. Once we have all of our mentors, we will host a training day to go over the details, our Safe Sanctuaries policy, and any questions you may have.

CAMP MINISTRIES

Camp registration for students is now open which makes us really excited for summer! We are also excited about a new opportunity for families to enjoy a day at camp in May. Click here to read more about our camp ministries!

PASTOR JIM IS RETIRING!

Saturday, June 3  |  1:00-4:00 pm
Rev. Dr. James Farrer, First UMC's senior pastor from 2014-2020, will be retiring from ministry this summer! The First UMC congregation has received an invitation to a celebration for his retirement at Emmanuel UMC at 16000 Cumberland Rd, Noblesville, IN 46060. Any and all are welcome to attend.

HOLY WEEK IS COMING!

Maundy Thursday, April 6  |  6:30 pm - Seder meal in Fellowship Hall.
Why did Jesus break the bread? Seems an odd thing to randomly do and then pass it around. And the cup, why? And what about that line, “the one who betrays me is the one who dips his bread in the sop after me.”  Did Jesus just magically know Judas would dip bread after him. None of this was random but rather the elements of a traditional Jewish meal called the Seder.

The Seder is a sacred meal still observed by the Jewish community today. It marks the Passover, their release from slavery in Egypt. The Seder is the meal Jesus and his disciples gathered for that we now know as The Last Supper. Discover the symbolic meaning behind the sop, the bread, and the cup, and join us to experience the traditional elements and wonderful food of the Seder meal for yourself.

Good Friday, April 7  |  6:30 pm - Tenebrae service with The Gathering and Auburn Presbyterian in the Sanctuary.
Tenebrae, Latin for “darkness”, is an ancient service that increases darkness by gradually extinguishing candles to symbolize the coming darkness of Jesus’ death.

Easter Sunday, April 9 - Celebrate the resurrection of Christ and new life in our congregation with baptisms and welcoming new members in both our 8:45 & 10:45 am services!
