If you live in Chicago, you know that Chicagoans go HARD on St. Patrick’s Day! ☘️

The history of St. Patrick’s Day in Chicago goes back more than 175 years.

The first Irish parade in Chicago was held in 1843 and later became an official city event in the 1950s.

And of course you've heard of the dyeing of the Chicago River that happens every year! 💚

The city releases 40 lbs. of green vegetable dye into the Chicago River, turning the river a vibrant shade of green.

This tradition started in 1962, thanks to a suggestion from the local plumbers union. The first dyeing kept the river bright green for an entire week! 🤯

Many of Chicago's early settlers were Irish immigrants, and their influence is seen throughout the city.

(We've got an insane amount of traditional Irish pubs! 🍻)

It's safe to say that Chicago has a long and rich Irish heritage, which makes it one of the best places to celebrate the holiday!

Did you know that the Irish have observed St. Patrick's Day as a religious holiday for over 1,000 years?

Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, wasn't actually Irish!

He was born in Britain but was taken prisoner at 16 years old by a band of Irish pirates.

He spent six years in captivity, during which time he turned to God for comfort, becoming a devout Christian in the process.

Saint Patrick is credited with spreading Christianity to Ireland.

We celebrate St. Patrick's Day every March 17th commemorating Saint Patrick's death, which happened on March 17th in 461 A.D.

Is it St. Patty's Day or St. Paddy's Day? 🍀 It seems some people are real fired up about the difference between the two. That being said, the verdict is in ⤵️
