Western offering new minor in South and Southeast Asian Studies

The Taj Majal on a sunny day

Western's Global Humanities and Religion department recently announced a new minor in South and Southeast Asian Studies. The minor builds significant knowledge of the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia through the study of culture, religion, history, literature, gender, art, film, and other disciplinary approaches. Students take two core introductory courses (HUMA 271 and HIST 220), plus four electives or other courses under advisement.

Today: 'This is What Belonging Looks Like' at 1 p.m. in the VU

A semi-transparent white circle on a watercolor background in pink, yellow, green and blue frames the event title and accompanying details in bold, pink lettering: "This Is What Belonging Looks Like, a senior capstone presentation and discussion, Tuesday, Mar. 14, 1-2:30 PM in VU 565."

When WWU signed on to the Okanagan Charter for Health Promoting Universities in November 2021, it committed to improve student and employee wellbeing at WWU by addressing inequities in campus structures and systems. As a part of this work, students in the senior-level sociology capstone Population Health Advocacy have collaborated with Counseling, Health, and Wellness Services to conduct a qualitative research study exploring students' sense of belonging and inclusion at WWU.

Please join administrative, student, and faculty thought leaders to hear the study findings and participate in a discussion of next steps.
