Nonprofit Updates
Medicaid Protection Ending
It is important for people enrolled in Medicaid to update their contact information with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare (DHW) so they do not miss important Medicaid benefit changes and updates. Call DHW at 877-456-1233, visit idalink.idaho.gov, or e-mail  MyBenefits@dhw.idaho.gov to make sure DHW has Medicaid beneficiaries’ current address and phone number.

DHW has started to mail out re-evaluation notices to approximately 150,000 Medicaid participants to see if they are still eligible for the program. When someone receives a notification in the mail from DHW, they should respond as soon as possible. You can learn more about upcoming Medicaid changes on DHW’s website. There is also a “Social Media Toolkit” at the bottom of that page where you can download information to share online or at your pantry about these Medicaid changes.

For individuals who have lost their Medicaid coverage, they can check out Your Health Idaho, for help securing a different insurance plan. People will also be able to find an agent or enrollment counselor to help them free of cost.

Partner Highlight
Minidoka Mobile Food Distribution
On February 25th The Idaho Foodbank hosted a food distribution in partnership with the Minidoka School District in Rupert, with a specific focus on increasing food access to agricultural workers in the community. Through the help of many volunteers, a drive-thru and a choice option were provided for our neighbors. During this distribution, 214 households (1,032 individuals) were served. Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen!

The distribution was the first in a series of three pilot mobiles aiming to improve services to the Hispanic/Latino community, utilizing recommendations from our Community Liaison program. Recommendations included offering the distribution on a weekend or during the evening; having bilingual volunteers and translated materials; offering culturally relevant foods; not requiring ID or additional identifying information; and hosting the distribution at an easily accessible location (such as a school).

National Nutrition Month
Every year, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics creates a theme to help people learn about making informed food choices and developing healthy eating and physical activity habits. This year’s theme is “Fuel for the Future” which focuses on eating with sustainability in mind. You can visit their website for more information and resources that can help you celebrate National Nutrition Month.
