Internship and Fellowship Programs

The Advocacy Team’s work with other non-profit and non-partisan organizations allows us to bring opportunities for internships (paid) and fellowships (experience) to Christ the King members, primarily college students. Two of these are outlined below and we will bring forward any others that develop. They are particularly beneficial experiences for anyone interested in a career in public service, politics, a non-profit area, or community-based work. Democracy Summer 2023
Democracy Summer is a staple of Democracy North Carolina’s grassroots legacy. This paid internship is a strong opportunity for students across the state to begin or continue their passion with community and political engagement. Applications for the next cohort of Democracy Summer will open during Spring of 2023! In the meantime, please email their program manager desmera@democracync.org with any thoughts or questions. Democracy Summer interns get real-world experience in organizing, communications, and advocacy.
Student interns work up to 40 hours per week (including some evenings and weekends) from late May to late July and earn a stipend of $5,000 (taxable) for the summer. This is a full-time job, so students taking summer classes or have other, part-time work cannot realistically participate in the program.
Democracy North Carolina occasionally engages area students in semester-long projects or other internships. As a nonpartisan, non-profit organization, we qualify for inclusion on most college community service lists. We can help you explore the possibility of earning community service or class credits for interning with us. For inquiries in specific departments, please contact the appropriate staff member. North Carolina Budget & Tax Center-Summer Policy Insititute
This fellowship is for individuals who have some knowledge of the state and local legislative and budget processes and would like to become more involved in policy work in their communities. The Institute was created in 2017 to foster North Carolina’s next generation of policy leaders by bringing young adults from the state to participate in exploring the top policy issues. The ultimate goal is to prepare students to become North Carolina’s future leaders.
