Assalamu alaykum,

We have 9 updates to share with you in today's newsletter:

(1) Ramadan Volunteering: multiply your rewards this Ramadan by getting involved at the masjid.

(2) Intensive Quran Memorisation Program: we invite you to strengthen your efforts in memorising and reading the Quran with the annual AMA Intensive Quran Memorisation Program.

(3) Fiqh of Tahara: sisters are invited to a halaqa to discuss the essentials of cleanliness and purification.

(4) Ramadan Iftar Fundraising: we are raising funds to provide iftars during the month of Ramadan, please donate generously.

(5) Islamic Programming for Children: we have a number of halaqas coming up for children from 3 to 10 starting with a Kids Halaqa this Saturday, March 18.

(6) Youth Iftars: youth are invited for iftar at the masjid this Ramadan.

(7) Helping Hands: our next feed the homeless program will take place this Sunday, March 19. Read more on how you can help!

(8) AMA Counselling Clinic: we are proud to provide a Counselling Clinic at AMA that is supported by the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

(9) Neighbourhood Health & Wellness Hub: benefit from the COVID-19 clinic, parenting drop-ins and dental clinic offered by OPH at AMA.

Ramadan Programming

#1. Ramadan Volunteers

Zayd ibn Khalid reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever helps break the fast of a fasting person, he will have the same reward as him without decreasing anything from the reward of the fasting person.” [Sunan al-Tirmidhī 807]

We are looking to recruit volunteers for Ramadan, make the best of the best month, make a difference in the community, multiply your rewards. Will you sign up?

Volunteer orientation will take place this week:
  • Brothers: Saturday, March 18 after Isha prayer
  • Sisters: Sunday, March 19 after Asr prayer

#2. Intensive Quran Memorisation Program

Rasulullah (ﷺ) said: “It will be said to the one who memorised the Quran/held fast on the Quran [together with practicing upon it], ‘Recite and ascend and recite just as you would recite in the world, for your abode (in Jannah) will be the last verse you recite”  (Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 2914)

This Ramadan, focus on your akhira, we invite you to strengthen your efforts in memorising and reading the Quran. With the annual AMA Intensive Quran Memorisation Program, you can dedicate time to learning and retaining vast portions of the Quran.

With 3 levels and under the guidance of your teachers, you can learn to memorise the Quran more easily and efficiently and be one step closer to becoming Hafiz of Quran.


Register for a group to memorize: 

Group A: Juz 29-30

Group B: Juz 27-28

Group C: Surah An-Nisa

Program Requirements: 

  1. Can read Qur'an well with proper Tajweed
  2. Can memorize minimum 3 pages per day
  3. To register for group C, you must have previously memorized Surah Al-Baqarah and Surah Al-Imran

#3. Fiqh of Tahara

AMA is pleased to offer this important halaqa on the Fiqh of Taharah for women. Join Sakina Bint Erik as she discusses essential aspects of cleanliness and purification which are mandatory for performing specific acts of worship.

Here are the details:

Time: 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Location: AMA Mezzanine (Sisters' Prayer Area)

Ages: For sisters 16+

#4. Ramadan Iftar Fundraising

It was narrated from Zaid bin Khalid Al-Juhani that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever gives food for a fasting person to break his fast, he will have a reward like theirs, without that detracting from their reward in the slightest.” (Grade: Sahih, Source: Sunan Ibn Majah 1746)

We ask for your generosity this Ramadan, take advantage of the blessed month when rewards are multiplied. We are raising funds to provide iftar at the masjid, imagine your rewards from feeding hundreds of fellow Muslims this Ramadan!

#5a. Kids Halaqa

Kids are invited this Saturday to attend a halaqa hosted by Sr. Soumaya Marhnouj to discuss "My Ideal Ramadan".

#5b. Toddlers Halaqa

Our next Toddlers Halaqa for boys and girls aged 3 - 8 will be on Sunday, March 19th! Toddlers halaqas include Islamic stories, crafts and skits.

#6a. Boys Iftar

AMA Youth is pleased to invite boys to break their fast at the masjid this Ramadan. Join us for a memorable night at the masjid.

Location: AMA Community

#6b. Youth Iftar

AMA Youth is excited to invite youth to join us for iftar on Sunday, April 4. Join us for a memorable night at the masjid.

#7. Helping Hands

The Helping Hands program is back this Sunday, March 19. Firstly, we want to thank the community for their generous contributions! Due to regulations, we must continue to buy food from restaurants for future Helping Hands events.

If you have suggestions or special ties to any restaurant that can sponsor future Helping Hands events, please let us know. You can send your donations by email transfer to: info@amacanada.org ($5 or $10 donations would be greatly appreciated). Please make sure to specify it is for Helping Hands in the e-transfer message.

We also need drivers to deliver the food. Please email us at helpinghands@mymasjid.ca if you can drive the food to a shelter.

Lastly, we need your dua to ensure the program continues to thrive and help the needy in Ottawa.

#8. AMA Counselling Clinic

To help our community to rebuild and recover from impacts of COVID-19, AMA Centre has launched a Counselling Clinic as part of the Resilient Communities Fund from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). We work with trained Psychotherapists who integrate evidence based interventions (CBT, DBT, EFT, etc) in their client centred therapeutic approach, thus providing top-level care and service to clients. 

We currently offer appointments at select hours on Mondays and Thursdays. To book an appointment, please email counselling@amacentre.ca.

We would like to thank the Ontario Trillium Foundation for their support to help us create programs and systems to help our congregants and community to regain autonomy and self-sufficiency.

(2) Parenting in Ottawa drop-ins

Wednesdays from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
