Dear <<First Name>>,

For those who doubted winter would be behind us, you were right. Spring may be here with a few sunny days but they were quickly followed by snow! Ahhh, life in the Northwest.

Spring also means it is time for our May grant cycle. We have received 105 applications totaling over $107,000.00 in requests. This is a record number of applications for any single grant cycle and we are working hard to have the funds to fulfill these requests. If you are able, please consider a donation to be sure that these kids get the services and support they need.

Spring just keeps on giving! April is Occupational Therapy (OT) Month! Want to know more about what OT is and why it is so important for children? See below and hear from OT Megan Marney.

Stache Dash is coming up quickly on June 10. Sponsorship opportunities are still available and we are looking forward to a amazing time.
Registration is open! So come out and get your Stache on and run (or walk) for the kids. See more information below. A big thank you to our dedicated and hardworking Stache Dash committee. If you'd like to volunteer, click here.

Eat and Earn is a fun way to support the kids too - we all have to eat right? See below for the results from March and our April opportunity.

We are once again participating in Washington's GiveBIG campaign on May 2-3. See information below. Early giving begins April 18th.

As always, thank you for helping children reach their full potential.
Occupational Therapy Month
To better understand what Occupational Therapy (OT) is and how it helps children we went to Occupational Therapist Megan Marney to give us the facts.

What is OT?
Occupational Therapy (OT) is a play based intervention that focuses on promoting independence through everyday activities! Kid’s occupations look a lot different than adults –their jobs are to play, participate in school, and be independent with self-care activities. OT specializes in interventions that can be used across many environments and that can be adapted as kids grow and change.

Why would kids need OT?

Kiddos that most benefit from OT services are
those that have or are at risk of having
developmental delays or those that have difficulties functioning throughout their day to day. Some of the most common diagnosis that OT works with are those related to autism, sensory processing, fine and visual motor challenges, strength and coordination disorders, and executive functioning. Sometimes parents need some ideas and support as well! OT helps to educate families so they can carry over recommendations and strategies at home.

What are the long-term benefits for kids?
Like any other support a kiddo receives, OT can help them catch up to where they need to be or just give them a little extra boost. The hope of OT intervention is to help kids be as independent as they can in areas at home, at school, and in the community. We want to support kids to be involved members of the things they enjoy most!

What is at risk if they are not able to get the services they need when young?
Early intervention is so important! Sometimes kiddos need extra support and providing those foundations and interventions early lays the groundwork for future skills to be built upon. You can’t build a house by starting on the roof! Kids are constantly growing and changing, and we expect more and more from them as they get older- without intervention for those who need it they are at risk to fall further behind.

Thank you Megan for shining a light on the importance of Occupational Therapy for children with special needs and thank you for all you do to help elevate these kids to help them reach their full potential.

You too can shine a light on these kids and families. If you are able, click below to support therapy and home therapy equipment.
