Vulnerability: Practicing Solidarity
Led By Claire Karl Muëller

Our mission at First Parish Church in Taunton is to
Inspire, Connect, and Serve

Claire Karl Müller of UU Mass Action, our state legislative advocacy body, will share their personal story of vulnerability and commitment to indigenous issues. The overall work of UU Mass Action will be highlighted, including their advocacy for the indigenous legislative agenda, climate and environmental justice, immigration justice, decarceration and ending solitary confinement, and economic justice. A second special collection plate for the work of UU Mass Action will be collected this day.
This Sunday in Youth Faith Formation

This week our Chalice Children and Jr. Youth groups will continue to work with our theme of  Vulnerability and explore it through the lens of Personal Vulnerability. With the help of games, group discussion, and a project, each group will dive into what we do in the moments when life asks us to be vulnerable and show our true selves and bravely say, “This is me.”

Sr. Youth will be exploring the sixth Taking Flight Workshop: Gender Identity and Expression - By building a chart defining biological sex, gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation, youth will visualize the differences between sexual identity constructs. They have a chance to gain or deepen their understanding of the ways biological sex, gender identity, and gender expression may align or not align for different people. In addition, they discuss some of the challenges faced by transgender people (themselves or others) while learning techniques that have helped people to feel empowered and to be supportive. Youth will also explore their beliefs about gender-role expectations and critically evaluate gender-role messages they have received. While also identifying how stereotypes hurt people of all gender identities and learn steps they can take to overcome gender-role restrictions affecting themselves and others.

Music Corner With Greg

We are excited to share performances of two songs by indigenous songwriters this Sunday.  “Carry it On” by Buffy Sainte-Marie highlights the need to keep going when times get tough.“American Dream” by Raye Zaragoza was written to bring attention to the Standing Rock protests in 2018

Empathy requires vulnerability to open yourself to another’s emotions. We will explore that in “Empathy” by Alanis Morissette. Our closing song is “Waiting for the World to Change” by John Mayer.

A Call for ‘Can-Can' Women by Bobbe
Sunday, March 19th 3 PM

I have great ideas; for example, for a friend celebrating her 94th birthday, I came up with a women’s hygiene dispenser installed in a high school in a Native American reservation in her honor.  While I know what I want to accomplish, I’m boggled by the necessary steps, and I’m probably not the only one.  I’m sure, however, that others have the information that I need.  Let’s meet up, and talk about ways we can help each other Sunday, March 19th at 3 o’clock in the commons at the Taunton UU Church.   Any questions, please contact me at 857-366-0553.
Outdoor Spring Equinox Celebration Service
Monday, March 20, 6 PM

All are welcome and invited to join us Monday, March 20, at 6 pm in celebrating the Spring Equinox, the sacred time of winter's end and spring's beginning. Join us as we honor the turning of the Wheel of Life and the balance of light and darkness, through ritual, meditation, and community celebration.

Indoor childcare and activities will be available for any kiddos who may not want to participate in this quiet ritual-based service. We will, of course, all come back together for bonfires, treats, and celebrations.

Response to our needs has been tremendous!!  It is the community that makes the food pantry so successful.  This week we need pancake mix,  syrup and oatmeal.   You can leave your donations in the box at the top of the stairs by the glass door or bring them to service on Sunday and leave them in the box marked 'Food Pantry Donations' at the front of the sanctuary.  Or you can stop by on Saturday morning to see the food pantry in operation!
