Hi friends,

We are thrilled to announce the formation of The Maven Collaborative, where we center the needs of Black women to develop bold solutions to structural problems and, ultimately, transform our social and economic systems so that everyone can live a life of joy, dignity and respect.

You can read more about our launch in this exclusive from The Chronicle of Philanthropy, where we’re described as an org that will “work to reduce the racial wealth gap by focusing on Black women. The new group has raised $2 million, a figure that includes grants that have been approved at the staff level and are awaiting approval from foundation boards. That’s enough money to hire all of their former Insight Center colleagues — six staff members and two fellows.” If you don’t have a subscription, you can find a pdf of the article here.

We’re so grateful to our friends at Community Change, who will house our new operation as we get off the ground. We’ll be building out a more robust website and sharing details about our work in the coming weeks, but for now you can check out the high-level details here.

We hope to see many of you at this year’s EconCon, which we’ll be co-hosting in Washington, D.C. June 8-9. Registration is now open to join virtually or in-person for the conference, where we’ll join experts, organizers, advocates and policymakers to advance a people-centered economy that works for everyone.

For our Bay Area friends interested in learning more about how ARPA funds have been allocated in the region, please consider joining How the Bay Area Spent Federal Recovery Dollars - Opportunities and Tools, a webinar hosted by the San Francisco Foundation and Bay Area Equity Atlas project. Jhumpa was a member of the Community Advisory Group to the Bay Area Recovery Dollar Tracker and will be talking about how to use this data for policy, advocacy and narrative change efforts. Register today!

Lastly, we want to thank those of you who’ve reached out to us over the past few months — your words of encouragement, solidarity, shared rage and hopefulness have meant the world to our small but mighty team. We are so grateful that our work continues, in a home that will allow us to truly live our values in building an economy for all by centering Black women.

With gratitude,

Anne, Jhumpa and the entire Maven team
