The Art of Steele

Village Scene

Theodore Clement Steele, American, 1847–1926
1885
Oil on canvas

Village Scene is a wonderful example of Steele’s work during the same year he returned from study at the Royal Academy in Munich. This painting demonstrates why he was often called the “Master of Light”. David Steele, long time board member, calls this painting his favorite by T.C. Steele. Be sure to visit the Haan Museum of Indiana Art and see this painting in person!
