No grounds evictions will be banned during periodic agreements! #RentersElection23
<<First Name>>, have you heard the news?!
In a massive win for the renters of NSW, 'no grounds' evictions during periodic agreements will be abolished regardless of who wins the election on 25 March!
On Friday last week, the NSW Liberals and Nationals committed to ending no grounds evictions in periodic tenancies – rolling leases (SMH). This means there is now cross-party support for this change, so no matter the election outcome on 25 March, we'll get this reform. This is a huge win: renters and supporters have been pushing for this for decades!
This announcement demonstrates the power of the tireless organising and testimony from renters, and that decision-makers can no longer ignore us. If you've shared a story, come to an action, attended an Assembly, joined the Tenants' Union, signed a petition, started a conversation with a family member, re-shared a social media post — you helped make this happen.

It's becoming increasingly clear that the upcoming NSW election is the #RentersElection23. This election will be decided on our issues: renters' issues. Renters are in a unique position right now to have our voices heard.
On Monday last week, renters made a big splash in the Daily Telegraph. NSW renters — and especially those in marginal electorates — will hold the key to this election. Decision makers need to be talking about how they are going to fix our broken rental housing system.

Then on Tuesday last week in Westmead, over 900 people gathered for the Sydney Alliance Housing and Climate Election Assembly focussed on renters. NSW Labor and the Greens re-committed to ending 'no grounds' and doing it right. They will end 'no grounds' during periodic tenancies and at the end of the fixed term. Treasurer Matt Kean also told the audience to 'watch this space.' And then on Friday, NSW Liberals and Nationals commited to ending no grounds evictions in periodic tenancies (rolling leases) and to extending the notice period at end of fixed term. A huge win!
