Open Education Week was launched in 2012 by Open Education Global as a collaborative, community-built open forum. Every year OE Week raises awareness and highlights innovative open education successes worldwide. OE Week provides practitioners, educators, and students with an opportunity to build a greater understanding of open educational practices and be inspired by the wonderful work being developed by the community around the world.

The session will focus on inquiry-based learning by implementing instructional practices that support student success and course learning outcomes. Developing meaningful assignments will empower students to apply the content and skills they learned during the concept exploration and concept introduction stages to authentic scenarios and problems.

By attending this roundtable, participants will become aware of research-based and practice-based evidence of Chinese students’ challenges, aspirations, and potential to contribute/engage, and learn how to create learning experiences in their courses to encourage more student transformation from “powerless” to “empowered.”

The Building Success Across the Graduate Life Cycle workshop is designed for pre-tenure faculty members and others who are new to a supervisory role at U of T. Considerations for Quercus quiz settings  

The Quercus Quiz tool has a multitude of settings that allow you to customize the online quiz for your pedagogical needs.  However, some of the options you choose may impact how and when your students interact with the quiz and edits to the settings could impact grades.  Consider these examples of unintended consequences to a quiz: 

• It is important to set your quiz options, settings, and questions to your liking before making it available to students.  Once a student starts a quiz, any changes you make afterwards can have ramifications. The quiz tool will provide you with a warning at this point; however, the consequences may not be clear in the practical sense.  For example, if some students begin a non-timed multiple-choice quiz and then you add an availability date, those students’ quizzes may not be auto-graded. 
• When a student starts a quiz, they are 'locked-in' to the current versions, and subsequent edits do not impact them.  For example, if a question score value is changed, there will be a mismatch and the system will no longer be able to auto-grade.  You will then be required to manually grade quizzes in SpeedGrader to account for the difference.
