Climate Change and Health: The Role of Radiology

Thursday, March 9th, 9:00 am PST/12:00 pm EST

Join the Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care, PEACH Health Ontario, and CASCADES as we welcome Maura Brown, MD, FRCPC, Diagnostic Imaging, BC Cancer Agency to speak on the topic of sustainable radiology in health care.

In this one-hour session Brown will review the concept of planetary health, outline available choices in radiology departments and discuss the role of health care leaders in climate advocacy.

Myles Sergeant, PEng. MD, Executive Director of the Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care, will then introduce the concept of sustainability criteria in RFPs.

Pharmaceuticals in the Environment: Impacts on non-target organisms

Join the Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care, PEACH Health Ontario, and CASCADES for an interactive webinar with Gigi Wong, BScPhm, ACPR who will present on the topic of pharmaceuticals in the environment.

In this one-hour session Wong will describe how pharmaceuticals enter the environment; detail the environmental classification for pharmaceuticals and the properties of persistence, bioaccumulation and toxicity; as well as provide one example of wildlife that has been negatively impacted by the use of pharmaceuticals.

WGO Climate Course for Global Gastroenterology: In order to increase awareness and educate physicians, nurses, and all health care providers involved in digestive care, the World Gastroenterology Organisation is broadcasting a series of nine interactive Webinars for one hour each, occurring every two weeks from March until June.

Celebrate Social Prescribing: A Virtual Tour Across Canada: On International Social Prescribing Day 2023, join social prescribing leaders from across Canada for a whistle-stop tour around the country to celebrate and be inspired by the current state of this work and emerging opportunities in different regions. We will also make a brief international stop to hear from global leaders gathered in London, UK to mark the day. March 9th at 10am PT / 1pm ET

Webinar on Values-Based Food Procurement in Health Care: Join Nourish Thursday, March 30, 11:00 am - 12:00 pm ET for a webinar to learn about sustainable procurement and Nourish’s Values-Based Procurement (VBP) Primer, a tool to support health care food service and procurement teams, by planning for and creating positive contributions to the health of patients, their organization, and the planet.

Nourish’s third Cohort, launching in September 2023, will bring together hospital and community partnerships united around the shared goal of taking action on the climate crisis, improving health equity, and promoting community wellbeing through food in health care. Applications will be accepted until May 25th, 2023.
