Kingston Voluntary Action Good Food Group has been working in partnership with RBK Public Health on co-producing a new Community Cooking and Wellbeing Programme that will empower local communities to cook, eat and live better. A team of coordinators from various community groups will be working together on sharing of ideas and recipes, working with nutritionists and other public health experts on empowering local residents to improve the health and wellbeing.
Small grants of £3,600 will be awarded to community organisations to run 3 programmes (8-10 weeks each) throughout the year. Depending on successful delivery, organisations will be eligible for the second year of funding. We will be asking each successful applicant to appoint a coordinator who will work together as part of a team, enabling learning from different communities and client groups.
We are particularly interested in hearing from smaller organisations working with seldom heard communities; ethnic communities, carers, children, young people and those facing multiple disadvantage.
There is an ambition to see the programme grow over time throughout Kingston. The programme will be linking with other food related projects in the Borough and will be part of the Good Food Group. There is an expectation that groups will work collaboratively with other food projects e.g. Kingston Crop Drop, Rapid Response Group etc.
