Brett Nilsen (left in photo) and Sean Powers came to the McNair Institute with a dream of starting their own company. They left the university with strong foundations for their shoe resale startup.
- Nilsen and Powers were recently granted the opportunity to participate in one of the world’s largest startup investor programs, Techstars.
- Over the course of 13 weeks, the pair will take advantage of extensive mentoring opportunities, workshops, networking and early stage funding to take their company, Copyt, to the next level and scale up their business potential.

Payton Potter may only be a sophomore with the South Carolina equestrian program, but she’s already working behind the scenes to try and help the program long term, and not just with what she can do while riding a horse.
- The Woodland Hills, California, native developed an instant app for the team that can help fans and future student-athletes learn about the Gamecock program and its facilities at One Wood Farm in Blythewood.
- Potter, an environmental studies major, put together photos and provided descriptions to give users a real experience of what is available for the Gamecock student-athletes.
What she's saying: "I was the ‘Google Maps’ car basically walking all around the farm. It took me a few hours, and some of the dogs would just follow me around. The horses seemed to really like it when I was taking their pictures. It basically takes you on a virtual tour of the farm.”

- USC journalism alumna Lou Kennedy, co-founder of the Kennedy Pharmacy Innovation Center and president, CEO and owner of Nephron Pharmaceuticals, received a Lifetime Achievement Award for exceptional contributions to the industry.
