Crosshatch Reading Challenge

Join us this March for our latest reading challenge - read comics and manga in all their forms! Log your reading on Beanstack, or pick up a bookmark from either library. In Beanstack, you can complete activities to earn badges as you explore all the different genres and formats comics come in. Each badge earned will give you a chance to win a gift certificate to a local comic store.

This program is supported by the Oregon Cultural Trust and the Cultural Coalition of Washington County.

This IS Kalapuyan Land *Rescheduled*
Tuesday, March 14 | 6:30-8pm | Zoom

Join Steph Littlebird via Zoom to discuss Kalapuyan history and culture. She will also give an overview of her exhibit This IS Kalapuyan Land. There will be time for Q&A at the end.

Steph Littlebird is an artist, curator, writer, and a registered member of Oregon’s Grand Ronde Confederated Tribes.

Understanding and Caring for the Soil in Cedar Mill Backyards
Thursday, March 23 | 6:30-7:30pm | Cedar Mill Library

Now is a great time to get your soil ready for planting. Join Dean Moberg from Tualatin Soil and Water Conservation District for a discussion on the history of soil in the Cedar Mill area and specific things you can do to care for it and keep it healthy. There will be plenty of time for questions.
Felt Sewing Craft

Drop in and sew a felt pocket bunny to take home. 
Technology Open Lab
Tuesday, March 14 | 1-3pm | Cedar Mill Library

Need help getting started with e-books, adding an app to your smartphone or updating your email contacts? Volunteers will be available at Open Lab to answer questions. Bring your own computer, tablet, cellphone or e-reader with you to get assistance or use one of our laptops to practice.

Drop-in sessions, no registration is required, but there is limited space each session.

Teen Graphic Novel Book Club: Witch Hat Atelier Volume 1
Saturday, April 1 | 2-3:30pm | Bethany Library Annex | Ages 11-18

What would you do if you lived in a world where only some people were allowed to do magic, and anyone else who discovers the secret has their memory erased? Join us for a discussion of this month's Graphic Novel & Manga Book Club pick, Witch Hat Atelier Vol. 1 by Kamome Shirahama.

In person registration at the Cedar Mill & Bethany libraries is required. Limited copies of the book are available to pick up.

Come and enjoy Super Mario Brothers themed activities and crafts! The party will feature a Super Mario themed photo booth, Hot Wheels MarioKart races, a pipe craft and more!

Collaborative Coloring Activity

Drop in any time and color to your heart's content! A large coloring poster and markers will be available for our school-age patrons to complete together.

Medicare 101

Join Michelle Hernandez from Health Plans in Oregon as she goes over the basics of Medicare, what parts are right for you, and how to enroll. There will be plenty of time for questions at the end.
Giant Games

Play giant games like Connect 4, dominos, checkers, tic-tac-toe, cards and more! Ages 5+.
Owl Book Group
Friday, March 31 | 10:30am-12pm | Zoom

Join us virtually this month to discuss Shuggie Bain by Douglas Stuart. Hugh “Shuggie” Bain is a sweet and lonely boy who spends his 1980's childhood in run-down public housing in Glasgow, Scotland. He struggles to become a "normal" boy, but everyone but him can see his secret. His mother is supportive, but her addiction has the power to eclipse everyone close to her — even her beloved Shuggie.

Teen Game Night: Super Smash Tourney
Friday, March 31 | 6-8pm | Ages 11-18 | Cedar Mill Library

Compete in our Smash Bros Tournament. Meet your friends and play console games together. Switch, Wii and Gamecube games are available. Tournament will be played with library consoles and controllers, but participants can bring well labeled controllers to use with non-tournament devices. Registration required online here
Our Teen Library Council recommends some Young Adult nonfiction and fiction stories about women written by women.

SUPPORT YOUR LIBRARIES
Volunteer Opportunities  
Interlibrary Loan Assistant
Are you organized and good at following directions, with legible handwriting and a curiosity about interesting library items? Volunteer to package and send Interlibrary Loans back to their home libraries.
One 1-hour shift per week, Wednesday between 2:30-4:30pm, ages 14+.
 
Adult Craft Program Volunteer
If you like arts and crafts, you may enjoy volunteering to help with craft programs for adults. Brainstorm craft ideas (from terrariums to crocheting to pine needle basket weaving), prepare supplies, create prototypes and assist patrons at quarterly craft events. 4-5 hours/month, ages 18+.

Circulation
Are you a reader? Do you love details? Does alphanumeric sorting come easily to you? If so, you might enjoy sorting and shelving library materials in Circulation at Cedar Mill. Thursdays, 9-11am, ages 14+.
