Let's work together to make our great neighborhood even better!

March News & Neighborhood Meeting

Greetings, Neighbors.

The vernal equinox is almost upon us, and the arrival of daylight savings time means additional opportunities to spend more time outside in our neighborhood and local parks.

Adjacent to SoDo is Barnard Park (aka South Green), a small-scale park at the intersection of Main Street and Wethersfield Avenue. In recent years, this former green space was run down and strewn with litter. The fencing has been repaired and the past few holiday seasons saw it adorned with festive lights, organized by Sen. Chris Murphy. Now it is being considered as a possible location for a dog park. Learn more at our next meeting.

The next SoDo NRZ meeting of the 2022-23 year will be IN PERSON Wednesday, March 15 at 6:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church of Hartford, 136 Capitol Avenue (enter through the small white building to the right of the main church).

Our Development Services rep, Grace Yi, will give a special presentation on the proposed
Barnard Park Dog Park. We will also be discussing our Love Your Block submission, our neighborhood’s Strategic Plan, and the City’s community outreach for their Neighborhood Planning study.

Many thanks to our neighbors Pastor Nancy Baseel and the First Presbyterian staff for generously offering us their space for our meeting.
Here is the Agenda. We look forward to catching up on neighborhood news with you in person!

What is the SoDo NRZ? (TL;DR - your neighborhood association).

Our meetings typically include reports from Hartford NEXT, Community Garden, and the Outreach and Social Committees, reports from HPD and HFD on activity in the neighborhood, and updates from various City offices such as Community Engagement, Planning & Development Services, and Sustainability. We occasionally have special guests who share information relevant to quality of life in the city or the neighborhood.

Our Board Elections are held at our Annual Meeting in June. Interim elections can be held when there are Board vacancies. Any member of the SoDo neighborhood is eligible for nomination to the Board. Want to know more? Email SoDoNRZ@gmail.com with your questions.

Who qualifies as a member of an NRZ? All residents (including tenants), property owners, business owners, and non-profits within an NRZ's neighborhood boundaries are automatically members of the NRZ. Our meetings are public and open to all. If you are not sure if your home, property, business, or organization lies within the SoDo NRZ boundaries, please check out this map. If you think you might qualify for another NRZ, check out this map. If you have questions, email SoDoNRZ@gmail.com.

You can view past meeting minutes and newsletter editions on our website. And don't forget to check out our Facebook and NextDoor pages for neighborhood news and photos.

Please share this email with your neighbors!
