AJT Regranting program 2023
 

Made Possible by a generous grant from CANVAS; a part of the Jewish Funders Network

 

AJT Regranting Program provides support for new and innovative Jewish theatre by offering grants to theatre-makers and theatres to support new work in the field that has potential to reach audiences at either established Jewish theatres or theatres committed to shepherding their work. This grant creates an open playground for artists to expand their capabilities and connect to a larger network to experience their work.

 

GRANT TIMELINE:

-Application Opens: March 27th, 2023  

-From March 27th- April 17th, AJT will review your application and offer feedback. We will still take questions up to the April 27th deadline, but can’t guarantee a full review of applications. is the deadline to send-in applications for full review. Questions will be taken up to the deadline, but a full application review can only be guaranteed, if by the 4/17.

-Application Deadline: April 27th, midnight EST

-Applicants Notified: Beginning of May, no later than May 15th. 

-Evaluations Due: December 1st or,
if project concludes after the 1st, December 15th.

 

March Playwrights & Makers Group Gathering!


Thursday, March 23rd at 7pm EST/ 4pm PCT.
This monthly virtual drop-in group meets to discuss the craft of making theatre,with a Jewish sensibility, and all the steps of the journey. Each month there will be a different moderator to contribute their skills and tools.




March Guest is Producing Artistic Director and co-founder of InterAct-  Seth Rozin!! Under Seth’s leadership, InterAct has championed the development and production of new and contemporary plays that grapple with pressing, complex and sometimes controversial issues of our time, while garnering critical acclaim and numerous awards for the quality of its productions and national recognition for its commitment to diverse voices and ideas. Seth has directed over 50 productions for InterAct, including EUREKA DAY (2019), THE GREAT LEAP (2019), HOW TO USE A KNIFE (nominated for seven 2017 Barrymore Awards, including Outstanding Overall Production), THE NETHER (nominated for three 2016 Barrymore Awards, including Outstanding Overall Production), THE ELABORATE ENTRANCE OF CHAD DEITY (cited for Best Director by Philadelphia Weekly in 2009), PERMANENT COLLECTION (nominated for four 2003 Barrymore Awards, including Outstanding Overall Production), IT’S ALL TRUE (nominated for five 2001 Barrymore Awards, including Outstanding Overall Production), LEBENSRAUM (nominated for six 1999 Barrymore Awards, winner of Outstanding Direction and Outstanding Overall Production, named one of the fifteen Best Productions of the decade by the Philadelphia Inquirer) and 6221 (named one of the Best Productions of 1993 and one of the fifteen Best Productions of the decade by the Philadelphia Inquirer). Seth is the author of more than a dozen plays, including MEN OF STONE, MISSING LINK, BLACK GOLD, TWO JEWS WALK INTO A WAR…, THE THREE CHRISTS OF MANHATTAN, HUMAN RITES and SETTLEMENTS, which have been produced at 28 theatres across the country and in Australia. And he wrote the book, music and lyrics for A PASSING WIND, which was featured in the inaugural Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts at the Kimmel Center in 2011. Seth is the recipient of two fellowships from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the National New Play Network’s 2007 Smith Prize, a commission from the National Foundation for Jewish Culture, and two Barrymore Award nominations. He co-founded Philadelphia Scenic Works (www.PhiladelphiaScenicWorks.org), a nonprofit, community-based scenic fabrication shop, in 2016. And in 2018 he co-founded MusiCoLab (www.MusiCoLab.org), dedicated to the development of new musical theatre works.  Seth has twice served as President of the Board of National New Play Network, as well as Philadelphia Artists Collective, Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia and New Paradise Laboratories.

AJT Hiring Administrative Associate.
Closes April 16th. 

Part-time, remote position. Up to 12 hours a week at $20/hr.

Contractor will work as the Administrative Associate for AJT.
Said work to include, but not limited to: 

• Work with the Executive Director to design and distribute the monthly Newsletter and uploading to website. 

• Build events for Members to register, process registrations, market events and operate box office.

• Be point of contact for questions and managing the admin email.

• Receiving and processing Memberships and Donations, and sending acknowledgment letter promptly.

• Updating Member Database.

• Designing social media and outreach posts.

• Creating virtual program for conference.

• Work with the AJT staff to keep the website up to date and send out regular newsletters to AJT's email lists.

• Write content for AJT's social media platforms. 

• Maintain the database of AJT's members, regularly sending out renewal reminders to lapsed members.

• Participate in AJT’s anti-racism and EDI work.

Contractor will meet or communicate weekly with the Executive Director. Contractor will serve as an administrative member of the AJT Team, represents AJT within the context of AJT’s history, Jewish values, and in keeping with its many theatres and diverse Jewish expressions including: all of AJT’s conferences; many activities, connections to theatres and Jewish organizations; and the voluminous work that AJT’s Jewish theatre members and aggregate community have produced.

Join AJT for a moderated Q&A with Steven Skybell and Jackie Hoffman as we discuss the revered National Yiddish Theater Folksbiene production of Fiddler on the Roof directed by the brilliant Joel Grey. We will hear from acclaimed actors Steven Skybell (Tevye) and Jackie Hoffman (Yenta) about what made this production resonate so profoundly with modern audiences and why this show holds special importance to them both. This event welcomes all AJT Members and Theatermachers!
