DRYDEN BUSINESS ASSOCIATION

Founded in March 2022 by Mary Kirkwyland of Lyrical Landscapes and Kelly Ritter of Dryden Agway, the Dryden Business Association (‘DBA’) was formed to serve our local businesses, Town, and Villages. Sadly, Mary passed this past January; she was much loved and respected as a cheerful, involved community member. The DBA Mission Statement reads: 'Founded in 2022, the Dryden Business Association is a voluntary group of business owners who promote and support each other and cultivate relationships with local municipalities and organizations to create a vibrant community.’

2022 highlights included:
  • DBA partnering and participating with the Southworth Library Holiday Celebration, which was a big success with families visiting local businesses on an ‘ornament treasure hunt;’
  • DBA members Kayla Lane of Dryden Apartment Company/Dryden Reality and Mark Bell of Bell’s Auto were directly involved with the Village of Dryden’s first year application to the NY Forward grant program (thanks to both, the Village, and all involved for the great effort);
  • A group of DBA volunteers repainted and restained the Montgomery Park Playground fixtures; and
  • In the fall, the DBA and the Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce cohosted ‘Community Conversations: Dryden’ at the Southworth Library — and in October, the Tompkins Chamber Foundation became an official ‘fiscal sponsor’ of the DBA — we have much planning to do in 2023!
Early this year, Randy Lacey of Hopshire Farm Brewery presented an interesting and lively talk on the history of beer making in New York State, with a focus on the local angle. Highlighting local businesses is one important function of the DBA.

The DBA hosts monthly meetings, entering its second year starting with our March meeting tentatively scheduled for Monday the 20th, location TBD. As a new organization, we encourage all Dryden-based businesses to join and become involved, meet your neighbors, and expand your network. For more information, please contact Kelly at adryden1@twcny.rr.com or Brad at 15westmain@gmail.com.

The Climate Smart Communities Task Force meets on the 1st Tuesday of the month at 4:15pm. Check the Town of Dryden website calendar for meeting details and updates.

Conservation Board

The Conservation Board met on January 31st with a relatively light agenda, the sole discussion item being its priorities for 2023. Much discussion was given to invasive species and how to better educate residents on their general locations and controlling their spread. Other identified topics of focus for the upcoming year will be the salinity levels of Dryden’s waterways, ditching, and stormwater. A presentation on the Drinking Water Resource Protection Plan is scheduled for next month.

The Conservation Board meets on the last Tuesday of the month at 7:00pm. Check the Town of Dryden website calendar for meeting details and updates.

Dryden Recreation and Youth Commission (DRYC)

The DRYC met on January 25th with an eye to laying out its goals for 2023. The Commission carried over three goals from last year: 1) seeing firsthand the OURS and YOURS programs in action; 2) creating a visual identity that can be seen by the public (e.g., logo); and 3) continuing to support the Recreation Department in the development of recreation fields and programming for all ages, as well as highlighting the need for non-sport programs. Further goals for the upcoming year include updating community spaces and parks; developing a multi-use facility/community center (with accommodation for turf, court, fitness, classroom, and kitchen spaces); and getting more youth involved with the Commission.

Dryden Recreation and Youth Commission meets on the 4th Wednesday of the month at 7pm. Check the Town of Dryden website calendar for meeting details and updates.
