Connect | March 2023

Kia ora <<First Name>>,

The Autumn feels are in the air, right!? Snow in the weather forecasts, leaves falling, clocks changing, Easter eggs on sale.

March is probably the busiest time of the year for us, certainly in terms of the various projects on the go and the juggling of distinctly different safety messaging. Over the last month we've kicked off a Roar hunting campaign, planned a duck shooting opening weekend campaign, we're still focusing on walking and tramping through the up-coming Easter long weekend and school holidays, and prep for winter avalanche forecasting has begun. It is all go!

Lots of updates and further reading below, enjoy!

Hunters round the campfire

Gearing up for another Roar  | Tips from our partners

The excitement is running rife as the Roar hunting season is upon us. We chatted to some national organisations to get their advice for hunters this Roar. Hear from LandSAR, NZ Deerstalkers Association, and the Game Animal Council. Read their tips here.
Nathan Watson and family

Nathan celebrates 10 years at MSC

Our Operations Manager Nathan Watson celebrated a decade at MSC this month. He shares with us some 9 to 5 workday wisdom and the recipe for success working at a Non-Government Organisation (NGO). Read more here + hear how his recent family adventure to Jans Hut went.

We're off on our bikes

We will (hopefully) be filming another epic backcountry mountain biking video for the Paparoa Track next month. Stay tuned for another video in our track-specific set!

(fingers crossed we get a kind weather window!)

Using Plan My Walk

Plan My Walk | New improvements coming soon

Shortly we will be releasing more updates to Plan My Walk. The best way to hear about these is by following us on social media or as a registered Plan My Walk user (go on, create an account, it's free). The major changes you'll notice are:
  • Navigation changes: Significant updates to the way users navigate around the site.
  • Map view updates: When viewing a track/hut/campsite map - now you can see other surrounding tracks, huts and campsites. Further enhancements to this page will be added later.
  • More tracks added: 22 Invercargill City Council tracks are now live + more than 75 Christchurch City Council tracks will be released over the next 10 days.
  • Account setup and verification: We've streamlined the account setup process, making it easier to verify your account and start using Plan My Walk.
  • General bug fixes and enhancements.
