Reeds Marine Deck 1: Collision Regulations Handbook
A thorough understanding of the International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea (ColRegs) is essential for a wide range of professionals as well as amateur mariners. Written in legal text rather than easy to understand terminology, it is not a surprise that the Colregs are subject to gross misunderstanding and confusion. This makes this a difficult area for the thousands of mariners who need to learn, understand and remember them.

This handbook is the answer. Expert marine training director Simon Jinks provides straightforward explanations of the complex situations that the Regulations discuss. He gives simple and comprehensive interpretation of the ColRegs rule by rule, giving students and professionals the clarity they need for exam prep and dealing with real-life situations. Colour illustrations of all lights and shapes, and clear diagrams provide additional support for students. The handbook also includes chapters on bridge watch-keeping, radar plotting and techniques for answering ColRegs questions in MCA exam conditions. It shows you where other maritime regulations work hand-in-hand with ColRegs.

Simon Jinks is an experienced teacher of ColRegs to students who are studying for MCA Masters, OOW, Boat master and Chief Mates exams, plus those who are studying for RYA Yachtmasters and IYT Master of Yacht Qualifications and want to have an in-depth knowledge. The book adapts the author's teaching notes, developed over many years, with added extras around the subject to help in greater understanding.

Atlantic France, 3rd Edition
Covering the whole Atlantic coast of France, from Ouessant in the north to Hendaye on the Spanish border, this second edition of the RCC Pilotage Foundation’s guide has been thoroughly revised and updated by Nick Chavasse who has taken his Bowman 40, Wild Bird, into every main port and a multitude of anchorages, including explorations up the numerous navigable rivers.

The plans have been revised and improved throughout and the coverage has been extended to include large scale detail for key areas including Lorient and the Gironde. Coverage of the Brittany coast west from L''Aberwrac''h, so often the gateway to the Chenal du Four, is now extended to include the islands of Ouessant and Molène.

Many of the new photographs are on-the-water images which are invaluable to the navigator, but this edition also continues to benefit from Patrick Roach’s unique and informative aerial coverage.

''Atlantic France'' is the authoritative cruising companion for this long and varied coastline with its sometimes-daunting tides and currents, and its publication has been welcomed both by first time visitors who are enjoying their first taste of the region and by old hands who are revisiting their favourite haunts.
Available to Order - RRP £49.50
Channel Islands, Cherbourg Peninsula & North Brittany
This revision of the RCC Pilotage Foundation''s pilot updates the combined volume for this area which encompasses the Channel Islands and extends from St Vaast La Hougue on the east of the Cherbourg peninsula, and works westwards along the Normandy and Brittany coasts to Ouessant. Coverage includes the Plateau des Roches Douvres as well as detailed sections on the navigable rivers.

The navigator benefits enormously from the painstaking approach with which Peter Carnegie has documented his own explorations of these, his home waters. His numerous annotated photographs and the many accompanying charts detail the network of transits between the off-lying rocks and islands of the region. Waypoints are used judiciously to further inform, but the emphasis remains on time-proven and trusted methods of safe navigation in these waters of high tidal range and fast-moving currents.

The Channel Islands, Normandy and Brittany coasts can seem a daunting sailing area for those unaccustomed to their ways, but ‘Carnegie’s book provides reassurance and so much practical advice that anyone using it will feel confident of success.'' (Yachting Monthly). It is the definitive pilot for anyone interested in the challenge of exploring the less frequently used passages and anchorages.

The England Coast Path 2nd Edition
The definitive guidebook to the entire 3,000-mile length of the new England Coast Path.

For anyone planning a trip to the coast or a UK summer holiday, the new England Coast Path national trail is a hugely exciting prospect, and this guidebook shows you how to make the most of every single glorious mile.

Environmentalists, volunteers, campaigners, land owners and politicians all came together to create this 'ninth wonder of the world', and from the opening of the path in 2020 onwards, anyone has been able to walk and wild camp along the entire 3,000-mile length of the English coast. It's a fantastic opportunity for all walkers, campers, fans of the coast and the outdoors. Stephen Neale has spent many happy months walking, camping and surveying the path, and from that experience has written a fantastically detailed and rich guidebook covering the route itself, along with everything from the best places to swim, hunt for fossils and eat seafood to hidden away beaches and canoeing spots.

Fully updated for its second edition, with 100 extra adventures from the newly opened sections of the path and spectacular new aerial photography, the book is divided up into the 16 coastal counties and features 1,100 places to see, camp and explore around the coast. Each place has map coordinates and basic directions from the path, allowing walkers to either visit specific places or link highlights together, walking between them along the path.

The England Coast Path represents what makes England so great: a little bit mad, a little bit proud, and the lucky host to one of the most spectacular and wild coastlines in the world. With this book you too can join the adventure.

A charming and characterful guidebook to the best of Britain's diverse and fascinating canal network for all waterway enthusiasts.

Beautifully illustrated, this compendium uncovers the many extraordinary, notable and surprising places to be found on Britain's waterways. Our canals and rivers link into a diverse 3,000-mile-long network, and 101 Wonders of the Waterways shows you that wherever you find yourself in the country, there will be something nearby to give you a taste of this beautiful and nostalgia-infused world.

Canal cruising experts Steve Haywood and Moira Haynes bring our waterways to life with their witty and lyrical prose, including many lesser-known and often ignored places – the best-kept secrets of Britain's canals and rivers. Some examples of wonders include:

· Historic Hungerford in Berkshire, where William of Orange was staying when he was offered the crown after the Glorious Revolution
· The world famous Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, soaring spectacularly on slender tapered columns 126 feet over the River Dee below
· Hest Bank, with its stunning views and the only place where a canal runs so close to the seashore that you can smell the seaweed from the back of your boat

As well as lively personal anecdotes, and insightful commentary on Britain's heritage and history, this guide includes handy recommendations to help you make the most of your visit to each wonder. This is the book you will want to have in the back of your car, or stuffed into your backpack, so you can find an idyllic place for a picnic, or the perfect day trip for a long weekend.

Home Waters
Being an island nation is a core part of the British identity. An estimated two thirds of the world's population have never seen the sea, but in the UK that drops to under 10 per cent. Yet most people don't appreciate the impact our position on the edge of a continental shelf has had on our history, going back thousands of years.

Our coast neither starts nor ends at the beach, and this eye-opening book takes a look beneath the surface to explore the forces of nature that have made Britain what it is. We experience some of the highest tides on the planet and we are battered with waves that have travelled halfway around the globe before they get here, but most of what we understand about our unique waters has only been discovered in living memory.

In this fascinating guided tour of the fantastically varied British coastline, Professor David Bowers combines oceanography with maritime history, explaining tides, currents and waves in an accessible way whilst revealing how they have been responsible for both salvation (the Channel alone checked the Nazi advance in 1940) and disaster (such as the catastrophic 1953 flooding that led to the ingenious development of the Thames tidal barrier). He covers everything from how ocean swell waves were first recorded here in preparation for the D-Day landings, to how the first underwater light measurements paved the way to modern ocean satellite observation.

This is a story 8,000 years in the making, ever since the country broke away from mainland Europe in the Mesolithic era, and in his insightful and irreverent telling of it Professor Bowers shows that the British Isles are defined by the sea, regardless of whether you look at them from land or water. With exclusive photos and specially commissioned illustrations, the book encourages you to visit all the places it explores, but when you stand on the beach or clifftop you will never think of Britain in quite the same way again.

Canals of Britain

Canals of Britain is the most comprehensive and absorbing survey of Britain's canal network ever published.

It provides a fascinating insight into the linked up waterways as well as the isolated cuts and quiet waters which may not be fully navigable by larger craft. Infinitely varied, it passes picturesque open countryside, wild moorland, coastal harbours, historic industrial buildings, modern city centres, canalside public houses and abundant wildlife.

Stuart Fisher looks at every aspect of the canals - their construction, rich history, stunning scenery, heritage, incredible engineering, impressive architecture and even their associated folklore, wildlife and art. Enticing photographs give a flavour of each place and places of interest close to the canals are included. Each canal is intricately mapped.

For those who are keen to explore that little bit further, the book goes to points beyond which others usually turn back, with information on little-known parts of the system, offering a new insight into this country's unique, surprising and beautiful canal network.
