Highland Park Water and Wastewater Improvements Project

Construction in Progress
Brief water outage for some residents on March 9

Construction is in progress on the Highland Park Water and Wastewater Improvements Phase 2 project. The crew will be working to install the new waterline along Crestway Drive over the next 6 to 8 weeks.

Please note that the contractor will need to jump from one section to another to meet the work sequence. Residents will always have access to their homes/driveways except when the construction trench is right in front of their driveway and this impact will only be for a few hours. We will coordinate this with the residents as work progresses along Crestway Drive. The contractor has metal plates handy to help with vehicle access in and out of driveways with a few minutes heads up.

Typical work hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and may include some weekend work from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Traffic control will be setup at the start of each workday and will be removed at the end of each workday. Appropriate traffic signs and detours will be available during the construction work.

Brief Water Outage Planned – March 9, 2023

A test water shutout is planned for March 9. This will cause a brief water outage from 10:30 a.m. to Noon for the residents along Crestway Drive from Spanish Oak to Laurel Canyon Drive and the entire street of Laurel Canyon Drive. Affected customers will be notified of this outage with a notice left on their front door at least two days in advance. Customers are asked to store water for essential uses during this outage by filling water pitchers and/or filling a bathtub.

Final paving of the streets will be performed at the end of the project, currently scheduled to start during the summer of 2023. It will include the full width street paving along the streets where our utilities have been installed – Balcones Drive from Perry Lane to Northland Drive, Section of Hancock Drive, Perry Lane from Crestway Drive to Shadow Lane, Crestway Drive from Perry Lane to Mt. Barker Drive and a small section of Mt. Barker Drive. Similar traffic control setup will be utilized again when the contractor returns for the final paving work.

Please observe traffic/detour signs and use caution in the construction area.

Please note that construction schedules can be affected by weather conditions. We will continue to provide updates if there is a schedule change. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to providing the necessary utility improvements in the neighborhood.

Project Overview
The Highland Park Water & Wastewater Improvement Project is constructing a second water line to feed into the area. The project runs about three miles from Far West Blvd. to Crestway Dr. with much of the work being done along Balcones Drive.

Water line breaks are well documented in this area, and the existing 12-inch line is a dead-end and not connected or looped with other water lines. The new 16-inch line will improve water service and fire protection in the area and allow for the decommissioning of an antiquated pump station and reservoir located on Ridge Oak Drive.
