GNERAL MEETING TONIGHT!

Wildlife photographer Melinda Welker will be speaking at tonight's meeting starting at 6:30.

Pamela Moore’s critique is tomorrow March 14 at the Aiken Family Y starting at 10 AM.

 

AAG has secured a spot for the Aiken Art Walk in downtown Aiken on April 4th from 5-8 pm(Master's week). Artists interested in selling art at this event must register by March 20th.

There are two ways to register by March 20th:

  1. Email artist information to info@aikenartistguild.org 
    1. Include "Aiken Art Walk" in the subject line.
    2. Supply artist name, phone number and email address in text of email.
  2. Complete a registration form at TONIGHT'S AAG meeting.

The dates for the 2023 AAG Member Show are May 18 - June 22.  You must be current with your membership dues to participate.  PLEASE CHECK AND SEE IF YOU’VE ALREADY PAID YOUR DUES SO YOU WON’T BE PAYING THEM TWICE!

The deadline for registration is April 15.  You can register on the AAG website.  Additional dates for this show are in this newsletter.


Nora Ray is displaying her work at the Elite Hearing Center window display through April 15.

Brenda Zaloudek is exhibiting her paintings at the Family "Y"  through March.

Patrick Krohn is displaying his photography at Kit Fox Pediatrics through March 20.

Those of us who knew and loved Ellene Southerland greatly appreciated the beautiful tribute submitted by Lindy Crandall in the last newsletter.  We would like to honor Ellene's memory and her contributions to the AAG by establishing a one or possibly two time award in her memory to be given at the Member Show. The criteria for the award will be determined by the board and/or the Member Show committee.   If you would like to donate to this please send a check made out to AAG with "Ellene Southerland Award" in the memo line to Aiken Artist Guild, P.O. Box 148, Aiken SC 29802.  You can also make a donation on the AAG website. Thank you.

TONIGHT'S SPEAKER

Melinda Welker:  Inspiring Conservation through Art

Melinda is a wildlife and nature photographer with a passion for photographing birds. When Melinda retired to South Carolina, she took up digital cameras and journeyed into wildlife photography where she discovered the wonder of birds.  She will talk about photographing birds in Aiken area locations.
 
In 2018, Melinda was juried into the National Association of Women Artist, headquartered in New York, where she has the opportunity to display her art nationally, lately in New York City and at the Art Club of Washington, D.C. Her photos have been published in newspapers, magazines and books and have been recognized with awards.
 
Melinda is a founding member of the National Association of Women Artist SC Chapter, a member of the Aiken Artists Guild and the Aiken Center for the Arts. She is also a member of the Midlands Chapter of the Carolinas’ Nature Photography Association, where like-minded North and South Carolina photographers share their love of outdoor photography.  The link to Melinda's website is

AIKEN ART WALK

AAG has secured a spot for the Aiken Art Walk in downtown Aiken on April 4th from 5-8 pm(Master's week). Artists interested in selling art at this event must register by March 20th.

    1. Include "Aiken Art Walk" in the subject line.
    2. Supply artist name, phone number and email address in text of email.
  2. Complete a registration form at the AAG meeting on March 13th. 

 

Artists must hang their art on April 4th at our spot (SRP Credit Union on the corner of Lauren’s and Hayne) at 4:30 pm. Artists must return to pick up unsold art at 8 pm on April 4th. 

Each artist will have the opportunity to display two pieces (maximum size 16x20).  Registered artists will be notified of any additional room available after registration has closed. 

The Guild will retain a 30% commission on all art sold at this event. Commissions will first be used to pay for fees associated with credit card transactions. The remainder of the commission will be added to our scholarship fund.

 

 

THE MEMBER SHOW, MAY 18-JUNE 22, 2023   

All AAG members who are current with their membership dues are encouraged to enter up to two pieces of their work to the Member Show.  At least one of your pieces and possibly two will be hung in this show.  

PLEASE CHECK TO SEE IF YOU HAVE ALREADY PAID YOUR DUES SO YOU WON’T PAY THEM TWICE.

Important Dates

April 1:   Your membership dues must be current.

April 15:  You must be registered to participate in the show.  You can do this through the AAG website now through April 15.

May 12:   Drop-off date from 12 noon to 6:45 pm in the main gallery at the ACA.

May 18:  Reception 6 -8.
 


If you know what you are going to submit for this show, please sent a photo to Kayla Hitchcock (kaylahitchcock@aikencenterforthearts.org) by March 22.  Kayla needs photos of members’ work to be included in the show for marketing purposes.  This is optional.

THE AIKEN ARTIST GUILD GALLERY

AT THE AIKEN CENTER FOR THE ARTS
 

Carolyn Bohn's Studio and Atelier

The award winning artist Carolyn Bohn and members of her studio will be showing their art at the Aiken Artist Guild Gallery through March 23. 

 

The show will consist largely of pastels.  The range of subjects will demonstrate diversity and the capacity of a group of individual artists to thrive in a supportive environment.  The artists who will be showing with Carolyn include Brian Anderson, Carolyn Bohn, Lucy Bureau, Barbara Dick, Beth Everett, Anne Hunter, Lise Obelenus, Laurie Neely, Linda Purdy and Price Story.

 Pamela Moore leads a group critique on the second Tuesday of each month.  The next critique will be held tomorrow March 14 at 10:00 am.


Artist Display

 Arts 4 Pets Sponsored by Southside Gallery

The First Annual ART4PETS Art Auction will be held at Woodside Country Club, Thursday, April 27 from 6-9 p.m. with proceeds benefitting the Albrecht SPCA Center. We are looking for entries - originals, prints, 3-d from local artists for this juried show.

Memberships
 

Please remember to renew your AAG membership in a timely manner.  The current membership year goes from July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023.  

You may become an AAG member or renew your membership through the AAG website. In the Menu pull down just select Membership.
