This week I was privileged to attend a retirement celebration for Muniandy, one of our kitchen staff. Muniandy has served in the kitchen at Dalat for 44 years. He started as a teenager and has never worked anywhere else. When someone asked why he had stayed for so long, he said, “This is my family.”

That family connection is an important pillar of Dalat, and I am so excited to have opportunities to celebrate together again as a Dalat family. The PTO International Food Fair tonight is a major milestone. This was actually the last school event we held in 2020, and the first lockdown due to COVID was announced only days later. The PTO did an admirable job of holding the event in creative ways over the past few years, but finally resuming the event in-person marks that we are truly moving forward as a community. It seems like many of you share my excitement, as we have a record number of countries represented, and the food vouchers sold out this week.

We also got to celebrate Spirit Week again this week. We even got to say “no masks” so students aren’t covering their entire heads and faces with large and distracting costume masks. After years of mask requirements, it was a refreshing change. The students are having a great time interpreting the themes for each day, and it’s wonderful to see all of their smiling faces.

Next week, we are looking forward to celebrating Missions Emphasis Week (MEW) again. We have a team of speakers from Canada flying in and will be holding four chapel services each day, Monday–Wednesday. There will be a chapel for elementary, middle, and high school students during the day, and a combined service each evening. Parents are welcome to attend the services in the evening. Participating in worship together as a community is another hallmark of the family nature at Dalat.

I am so thankful to be part of this family. The sense of family continued throughout the last three difficult years, and the opportunity to celebrate together again makes these events that much sweeter. I hope to see many of you at these events as we enjoy spending time together.

Can you believe it? Today is the day parents from 23 different nationalities come together as a community to serve with love. What are we serving? Food of course! Take a stroll to see what your tummy fancies or simply head straight for your favorite items before they run out. Either way, we hope the selection and variety of baked goods, desserts, and sweet and savory dishes will satisfy the taste buds of everyone. So what are you waiting for? Come at 4 p.m. with your pre-purchased food vouchers in hand. Even better, come wearing your national clothes or colors. Let's celebrate the various cultural foods and soak in the atmosphere as we eat and drink with friends, teachers, and family. All happening from 4-5:30 p.m. today. See you soon!

Dalat’s annual Missions Emphasis Week (MEW) is next week! We’re looking forward to gathering as a family for three days of special chapel services, Monday, March 13 - Wednesday, March 15! Our guest speakers this year are from Movement Church in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada. Movement Church is a dynamic missional church that makes an impact on its community and surrounding area. Guest speakers include their lead pastor Jeff Price; youth pastor, Justyn Schwindt; junior high pastor, Isaiah Belleth; and children’s pastor, Natalie Dickert. Evening services will be 6:30-8 p.m. each evening–with a student-led service Wednesday night. Please join us!

School-Wide Service Project ・ 학교 차원의 봉사 프로젝트 ・ 全校集体服务项目

As a part of our missional focus during Missions Emphasis Week (MEW), we will help a ministry called Breathe Life, which helps pregnant refugee women. Breathe Life provides birthing help to refugee ladies who would otherwise have little help delivering their babies. During March alone, Breathe Life has 31 scheduled births. As part of MEW, we are encouraging students to help provide items that these pregnant moms, who have nothing, need to care for their newborns.

Elementary School students are raising money for hospital and birthing fees (each birth costs approximately RM1,120). They are bringing cash and coins to fill baby bottles, and the class that raises the most will win a prize.

Middle School students are hosting a diaper drive. Please help your middle schoolers purchase and bring 60-count (or more) packages of newborn diapers.

High School students are providing these new mothers with fully-stocked diaper bags. Please assist your students in purchasing wipes, and other newborn care items from the links on this sign-up page. The students organizing this project have hopes of creating 35 complete bags. Each fully equipped diaper bag is approximately RM100 - RM150 in total. The students hope to provide enough bags for all 31 births this month plus a few extras.

If families would like to further support Breathe Life directly, donations can be made through bank transfer or online payments. Students will also have an offering box available during the week of MEW. Let’s encourage our students to live generously and help those less fortunate!

Jumpa Lagi T-Shirts for Sale

Jumpa Lagi 티셔츠 판매     购买 Jumpa Lagi T恤

Dalat has a wonderful tradition of helping our community transition well - including saying “goodbyes” well. One way that the Dalat community identifies those who are staying and those who are leaving next school year is with “Jumpa Lagi” (see you again) and “Selamat Tinggal” t-shirts!

This year, the Jumpa Lagi shirt (for returning students/staff) is black and the Selamat Tinggal shirt (for students/staff who are leaving) is white. These cotton shirts may be worn Fridays during Quarter 4 with full-length blue jeans (with no holes or rips) or school uniform bottoms. (Girls may wear calf-length capris).

Please order shirts here. RM28 will be charged to your school account for each shirt ordered. Please fill out one order per person. The deadline for orders is Friday, March 17, and shirts will be delivered after Spring Break.

Middle School Parent Teacher Conferences - March 17
중학생 학부모 교사 상담-3월 17일 ・ 中学部家长会-3月17日

Next Friday, March 17, middle school students will not have school. Instead, teachers will conference with parents. Students are allowed and encouraged to attend the conferences along with their parents, if parents would like to have them be a part of the conversation.

Please look at your child’s progress in PowerSchool. We are limited in the number of available conference appointments. If your child is doing well and you have no concerns, please allow the spaces to be filled by those needing support in their learning.

Parents must schedule their conference times through the PowerSchool portal. The conference manager opened today (Friday, March 10). Your scheduled times will be emailed directly to you. The conferences will be held in Harbor Hall

Here are a few ways to make the most of conference times:
  • Be on time. Please be considerate of the teachers’ and other parents’ schedules.
  • Honor the time limit. If you need more than your allotted 10 minutes, please reschedule another appointment time.
  • Ask questions. Your child’s teacher is happy to address any questions or concerns you may have.
  • Be relaxed and be yourself. Teachers are looking forward to talking with you one on one. They value your partnership and want to get to know you better.
  • Ask for a translator. If you are not comfortable conferencing in English, please arrange for one on your own or contact Mrs. Stevens with your conference time, teacher, and language needed, and she will help organize a translator.

Student Impact Club is happy to report the results of No Uniform Day: we received a total of RM5,580 for the day with the elementary school division collecting the most donations.

Thank you so much for your participation and your kind support! We are already sharing the love with others by supporting groups assisting refugee teachers and mothers. Pray along with us as we continue to work with refugee schools, a center with children of special needs, smaller churches on the mainland, nearby community groups, pet shelters, and others. Thank you!
