Thanks to all who came to the annual spring training party. Thanks to all who made donations. We raised $2,000 for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Rainbows for Kids. The best part was everyone seemed like they were having a great time.

Great time at the Baseball Bash

Hello Friends,

What a weekend it's been for sports fans from St. Louis! Sunday was a good day for Cardinals fans as the Cardinals won and the Cardinals players on the U.S. team the in World Baseball Classic had a good day, with Adam Wainwright and Miles Mikolas each pitching four innings and Paul Goldschmidt hitting a home run  and driving in four runs in Team USA's win.

The players from the Cardinals have been doing well. Nolan Arenado was hit by a pitch and came out of  Sunday's game but  X-rays came were negative. Tonight's game decides if the U.S. team will be playing Japan (featuring "Noot-mania") or Mexico for the championship.

If you are at spring training-- hit reply on this newsletter to find out about our STL Sports Page WBC Championship game Watch Party.

In the Cardinals game, Dakota Hudson allowed five runs in the first inning but the Cardinals rallied late to pull out an 8-7 win over the Mets on Sunday in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Nolan Gorman hit a two-run homer, his third of the spring, and Alec Burleson also drove in two runs.

We just posted the video from the spring training Baseball Bash-- our annual Cardinals pep rally event. We thank the Cardinals and especially Brendan Donovan and Zack Thompson for their involvement. It's always great to see Mike Trim-- news anchor from WPTV West Palm Beach-- with roots in St. Louis and Hermann, Missouri. Mike, who is a Cardinals fan, comes over and emcees our event every year. Jake Woodford will get the start today as the Cardinals host the Marlins in Jupiter,  entering into the last week of spring training.

Be watching for our article about Everything You Want to Know about Opening Day. It will be here before we know it.

Thanks for reading,

Rob

Minor Leaguers Working Hard

Fans who come down to watch spring training love going to the backfields to watch the future Cardinals. As spring training goes on and players are sent back from the major league camp, more and more recognizable names will be on the backfields. We love going to the minor league ballparks and bringing you news of the up-and-coming talent. Many of these players will be future stars.
Bill Virdon book is out

When Bill Virdon, A Life in Baseball came out, our friend David Jerome, the author,  took Shirley Virdon out to lunch to celebrate. "I think Shirley Virdon likes the way the book turned out about the love of her life. I certainly hope that is the case," he said.

He was in the minors for many years

We love it when people come up and introduce themselves. Rob enjoyed meeting Hal, who said he spent years in the minor leagues, some as a player and  then 14 years managing in the Detroit system.
Welcome to our "STL Sports Blast." We encourage reader engagement so email us with ideas anytime. Forward to a friend who might like it. Thanks! Sally & Rob Rains

Christina Whitlock on the field

When over on the backfields, we often see Christina Whitlock, who we've written about because she is the first women's uniformed coach in the Cardinals organization.
Local athlete gets honor

Congrats to St. Louis native David Brown who was named as an ambassador for The U.S. Association of Blind Athletes for the second year in a row. Brown  graduated from both Hazelwood West High School and the Missouri School for the Blind. David went on to become a three-time Paralympian in track and field, winning a gold medal in the 100 meters at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

Dennis Brinkman, Fred Schoder, Joan Schoder, Kathi Brinkman

We ran into Dennis Brinkman and his wife Kathi, from St. Charles, who took our advice and stayed at the Homewood Suites. They were having a lot of fun. It is Dennis's sixth time to come and Kathi's second time. They enjoyed going to the backfields watching the practices.

Their neighbors Joan and Fred Schoder were having their first trip to spring training and it was everything they were hoping for.

"I've always wanted to come to spring training," said Joan.
