International Women's Day

March 8 was International Women's Day. Kukpi7 Rosanne, Tkwenem7iple7 Marie, Morning-Star and Nikki shared the following with the TteS community.

International Women's Day holds a special significance at Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc as we honour the contributions and resilience of our Indigenous women. For centuries, Indigenous women have been the backbone of our communities, nurturing our families, passing on our traditions, and preserving our cultures. Despite facing systemic oppression and colonial violence, Indigenous women continue to lead movements for environmental justice, Indigenous sovereignty, and social justice. They are the protectors of our land, water, and sacred sites, and they continue to be pass on our cultural knowledge. Today, we celebrate the strength and resilience of Indigenous women and recommit ourselves to support them in their ongoing struggles for justice and equality. We stand in solidarity with Indigenous women everywhere, and we honor their powerful legacy and their contributions to our communities, our cultures, and our world. Happy International Women's day from Kukpi7 Rosanne, Tkwenem7iple7 Marie, Morning-Star and Nikki.

Update on Day Scholar Class Action

Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc Chief and Council have provided an update to band members regarding the Gottfriedson Reparations Class Action, which stated that the Government of Canada is responsible for the collective damages caused to First Nations by the IRS system, including the loss of language and culture. The settlement, which has been approved by the Federal Court, is a $2.8 billion dollar settlement and is one of the largest class action settlements in Canadian history.
