"Then He said to Moses: ‘Come up to the Lord, you and Aaron’ ” (Ex. 24:1)
Meditation:
“I raise my eyes to the mountains”, says the Psalmist, and this is precisely the answer to the summons: “Come up to the Lord”. And let our soul and life follow our eyes to Him, holding fast the hand of God, which extends down in order to raise us and bring us closer.
It is not easy to free oneself from sin and our oppressive flesh; it is not easy to ascend the steep incline of temptations to heaven. But hand in hand with the One Who leads, Who opened and paved the way, our soul strives upward, and that which was previously a stumbling block and a cause for falling, becomes a staircase for ascending. Sin and flesh are trampled upon and conquered, and, step by step, we move forward and upward. To Jacob life was presented in the form of a ladder upon which angels descended and ascended; our life is also a ladder, onto the lower rung of which the Son of God descended in order to lift and “bring” us to God (1Pet. 3: 18), sometimes along a thorny path, but a blessed one, because His footprints are on it.
“Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee,
Even though it be a cross
That raises me”
Once a dying child plaintively asked: ”Lift me higher, higher!” The father took him in his hands and raised him high, but the child continued to ask in a faltering voice until his last breath: “Higher, higher!” The Lord soon took him to Himself from the trembling hands of his earthly father into the loving embrace of the Heavenly Father. On his grave next to the name of the child the following words were written: “He has been lifted higher!”
The Lord calls everyone to Himself -- higher, closer to Him -- and wants to raise us from the earthly to the heavenly.

«И Моисею сказал Он: взойди к Господу ты и Аарон» (Исх. 24:1)
«Возвожу очи мои к горам», – говорит Псалмопевец, – это точно ответ на призыв: «Взойди ко Господу». А за очами пусть подымаются душа и жизнь к Нему, ухватившись за руку Божию, которая простирается вниз, чтобы поднять и приблизить.
Не легко самому освободиться от греха и гнетущей плоти, не легко взбираться по крутизне искушений и соблазна к небу. Но рука об руку с Вождем, Который открыл и проложил дорогу, душа стремится вверх, и то, что раньше служило ей преткновением и поводом к падению, становится ступенями восхождения. Грех и плоть попираются, побеждаются, и шаг за шагом мы простираемся вперед и вверх. Иакову жизнь представилась в виде лестницы, по которой спускались и подымались ангелы; наша жизнь – тоже лестница, на нижнюю ступень которой снизошел Сын Божий для того, чтобы поднять и “привести” нас к Богу (1Петра 3:18), иной раз и тернистой тропой, но благословенной, потому что на ней – Его следы.
«Ближе Господь к Тебе,
Ближе к Тебе,
Хотя бы крестом пришлось
Подняться мне!»
Однажды умирающий ребенок жалобно просил: «Подымите меня выше, выше!» Отец взял его на руки и приподнял его высоко, но дитя продолжало просить обрывающимся голосом до последнего вздоха: «Выше, выше!» Скоро Господь принял его к Себе, из дрожащих рук земного отца в любящие объятия Отца Небесного. На его могиле рядом с именем ребенка начертали слова: «ПОДНЯТ ВЫШЕ!»
Господь зовет нас всех к Себе, выше, ближе к Нему, и хочет поднять нас от земного к небесному.
