Hendersonville Theatre Presents World Premiere of Original Appalachian Drama, Trillium

New Play by Emerging Playwright Karen Ruetz was Developed at HT

HENDERSONVILLE, March 10, 2023 (FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE) Hendersonville Theatre is excited to premiere Trillium, an original Appalachian drama by Karen Ruetz. The original play runs at Hendersonville Theatre from March 31-April 2. Tickets are $17-25 and are available online at HVLtheatre.org or by calling the Box Office at (828) 692-1082. Groups of 10 or more receive a 10 percent discount.

Trillium is supported by the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, the Arts Council of Henderson County, the City of Hendersonville and Exceptional Papers, Inc.

“We are honored that playwrights trust us to workshop and produce their new plays for the first time,” said Victoria Lamberth, HT Artistic Director. “Trillium is not just a fascinating love story with a twist, but the audience will relate to the familiarity of the story’s setting.”

Trillium is a tale of magic, love, jealousy and revenge set in the Appalachian Mountains. Granny always warned Maeve not to interfere with love, but when Sarah, an old friend, comes to her for a love potion, Maeve reluctantly agrees to help her. Hoping to heal past wounds of a broken friendship, Maeve unknowingly opens Pandora’s box, releasing unfortunate events that will change her life.

The cast of Trillium features Natalie Broadway as Granny, Amanda McLoughlin as Sarah, Beth Norris as Maeve, Jesse Bailey as Bobby, Briana Clary as Young Maeve and Annika Knudsen as Young Sarah. Trillium's artistic team includes director Lois Hade and assistant director/stage manager Rowan Duncan.

Hendersonville Theatre is dedicated to the development of local playwrights, and to the production of innovative new work. Trillium is the first production developed at Hendersonville Theatre. The world premiere of this new play has been specifically chosen for HT”s audience and region.

The show is rated PG due to adult situations and mild language. Showtimes are 7:30 PM on Fridays and Saturdays and 3 PM on Sundays. Running time is approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes with one 15 minute intermission. Hendersonville Theater has made masks optional for patrons, and no proof of vaccination is required to attend a performance.

Since 1966, Hendersonville Theatre has provided an inviting and nurturing environment for live theatre, as well as high-quality, affordable entertainment for the residents of Hendersonville and surrounding areas. Hendersonville Theatre is wheelchair accessible, with free parking behind and in front of the theater.
