PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Hello SJS Parents,

This week marked the first week of trimester 3. As a reminder, trimester 2 report cards and iReady scores will be going home with your students tomorrow. If you need help interpreting your child's iReady scores, please download this Understanding Your Student’s Diagnostic Results document from iReady.

A reminder to complete the 5 Essentials parent survey. We need at least 20% of the parent population to complete the survey and we are currently at 11%. Please complete this survey before March 17th so we can receive the very helpful data back.

As we are in the thick of a cold/flu wave, we have been doing our best to keep our school clean and sanitary for the students & staff in order to avoid being sick. I want to take a moment to remind everyone that the best way to combat the spread of these viruses is to follow our health office sick child guidelines (which can be found on our website under the Health Office section in Current Families section).

Keep your child at home if he/she has:
  • Sore throat, severe cough, and runny nose: Children benefit from resting at home at the onset of a cold. Your child should remain home if symptoms are serious enough to interfere with your child’s ability to learn. Additionally, young children attending school with mild symptoms need to be successful at covering their mouths while coughing/sneezing and able to independently manage a runny nose.
  • Fever: If your child’s temperature is 99.4 degrees or greater he/she should remain home until he/she has been without a fever for a full 24 hours (without the use of fever reducing medication.)
  • Vomiting and/or diarrhea: Your child should remain home until without an episode of vomiting or diarrhea for a full 24 hours.
Thank you in advance for taking the extra steps to help keeping our kids and staff healthy so we can continue to keep everyone in school.

It is a great day to be a Bulldog!

SCHOOL NEWS

IMPORTANT: Please take this
5 Essentials Parent Survey

Each school year all of the schools in the Archdiocese of Chicago participate in the University of Chicago 5 Essentials school survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of SJS. As a parent, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child’s school. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:
  • Effective Leaders
  • Collaborative Teachers
  • Involved Families
  • Supportive Environments
  • Ambitious Instruction
Your participation in the parent portion of the survey will help us understand the conditions at your child’s school and guide improvement. Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.

Please click here for the parent survey.

The survey closes on March 17, 2022. We need at least 20% of parents to complete this survey in order for us to receive our data back.

If you have any questions, please call 5Essentials Client Services at 1-866-440-1874. Thank you in advance for your participation.
