Some of our Social Responsibility Prefects had their 'Ask the Expert' interactive on Tuesday where they had the opportunity to learn, engage with and be inspired by changemakers that are creating change through the power of social action across the world. There was an array of topics that were discussed associated to the Global Goals and team related areas.

International Day of Mathematics

International Day of Mathematics and Numeracy Week

Students and staff at SAIntS will be celebrating International Day of Maths on 14th March 2023. The theme for the 2023 International Day of Mathematics is 'Mathematics for Everyone' and we are proud to celebrate this theme as a Saints community.

We are delighted to put together some exciting events and activities for students:

  • All students will be solving Mathematical problems and puzzles during tutor time to win prizes and earn house points.
  • On Wednesday 15th March, Maths Ambassadors will be raising money for the charity during breaktime by offering student to solve various Mathematical puzzles in a jar.
  • Our Year 10 students and Maths team will launch the International Day of Mathematics with three of primary schools (Phoenix, Hillview, and Saint Andrew's) on 15th March.
  • Students will make a design of a circle and a pi on the school field. Look out for the drone photo next week.

A new challenge for the Saints Mountain Club
On Monday the Mountain Club scaled a new peak never before done by the school. Mpachika mountain is near to the St Joseph Mission Hospital in Nguludi. The students are pictured below at the 1142m summit enjoying the views of the surrounding area. The lack of a path to follow and the humid weather made this a challenging climb, but there was a real sense of achievement knowing they were the first SAIntS group to reach the top.
Student Leadership in Clubs

Rugby Club
In our series of celebrating student leadership in clubs, this week we recognise Martin, 6M1, who helps run the rugby club. Martin has been volunteering this term with the Junior Boys, Girls and Intermediate Boys rugby. Well done, Martin!
Knitting Club
This term the knitting club has been learning new stitches to make scarfs.
Photography Club
Last week photography club took some great portraits and nature photos, which were used this week to create some layered multiple exposure edits on photoshop. We had such a good selection this week showing lots of new skills learnt and some great creativity. Skills just keep on getting better, the next few weeks we will be stepping up the skill level to create even more complicated and high skill edits.
Peace Garden Club
This week the students surprised our female staff with a card and uplifting words to celebrate International Women's Day. They also decorated the Peace Garden with purple ribbons and inspirational quotes to support this year's theme #embrace equity.
Snippets from the Classroom
Modern Foreign Languages
In the MFL department we were lucky to have a Spanish visitor today. Students in Year 10,11 and 12 got the chance to practise their Spanish conversation skills in a Q and A session with Pedro De Castro, who is visiting from Galicia in Spain.  Pedro praised their linguistic skills and the students really enjoyed and benefitted from the experience. The Y11 students are now looking forward to their speaking exams at the end of April.

Business Studies
In the business studies department BTEc Business is reaching that important time of year when the process of external moderation is getting underway. To that end the department has been preparing students with individual interviews on the last assignment students need to be fully accredited. Teachers and students are fully focused on achievement and the department is well on target for all students to pass as the last sample is prepared for the external verifier. Well done to students and staff!
In the Year 11 Business Studies class, students were so engrossed in their lesson with Miss Gondwa. They discussed the elements of the external social environment using Malawian examples. The students were able to apply real life examples to the exam questions that Ms Gondwa gave them. In the evening, the students attended the Year 11 Options evening where they found out more about A Level Business and BTEC Business.
