📌 1 Big Thing: Learning Together

What’s new: The Downtown Neighbor Network is launching a book club! We’re starting with what we all have in common: Downtown Living. We will:

Read a book each quarter about living in cities written by diverse authors.
Get together to discuss the concepts in a conversational setting.
Put our learning to work to build belonging across the neighborhood.

Why it matters: Building connections across the neighborhood helps us grow as a Downtown community.

Learning together creates capacity-building opportunities, from which everyone can benefit.

The big picture: Here’s the list of books we’ll read this year:

April – June: Subdivided, by Jay Pitter
July – September: The 99% Invisible City, by Kurt Kohlstedt and Roman Mars
October – December: Street Fight: Handbook for an Urban Revolution, by Janette Sadik-Khan and Seth Salomonow

We’ll order books and partner with the Grand Rapids Public Library to get the right format for you.
Our first book club meeting will be on May 1 and you can start reading as soon as the book arrives. No need to finish it by then, this meeting will just help set the foundation.
