Tsunamis & Waves with Troy Nicolini
on April 17

St. Patrick’s & Solstice at Stone

What an absolutely nice afternoon for the St. Patrick’s Day Paddle at Stone Lagoon on Sunday, March 18, hosted by Michael Morris. Thank you to all who attended! The lagoon had breached the previous weekend so the water was low with a lot of action at the breach. There was a some boat dragging across a shallow stretch but the group was able to land pretty much in the usual spot at the South end of the spit. It was an enchanting evening with good food, good drink, good people, and a good time.

Other Tidbits

Bill Parks, founder of Northwest River Supplies passes away

Chances are some of your boating gear may sport the NRS logo. It could be booties, spray skirt, tie-down straps etc. Paddling Magazine recently published an article on the passing of  Bill Parks who was the founder of NRS — Northwest River Supplies — providing insight to person who would develop a company that would become a part of the growing sport of water recreation. “The 88-year-old leaves behind a 50-year legacy of serving the paddlesports community…” read the article here…

Volunteer for the ENC Social Thingy

If you’ve ever attended Explore North Coast’s Social Thingy, then you may have fun memories of meeting a variety of paddlers visiting from out of the area. This event has been a great way to reach outside the county and invite other sea kayakers to paddle here over a long weekend. Each day has at least two paddle options, catering to all skill levels and there is usually a planned potluck or barbecue on one of the days. We are planning to have our event in early October and would love anyone who is interested in helping to volunteer at whatever the amount of time you have. There are different ways to help — some of these include:
  • Planning with the potluck / barbecue
  • Paddlehost/Co-paddlehost if you've gone through the training
  • Outreach and/or researching information such camping/lodgings for those out of the area
  • General planning covering the logistics of the event
If you’d like to see how you can help please sign up here.
