What an Outstanding Term!

Dear Parents,

Academically, all the children have worked very hard this half term and the Prep children have achieved great results in their end of term assessments; I hope you enjoyed reading their reports this week. World Book Day, Science Day and Careers Week were highlights in the academic calendar this half term.
Excellence in Art was achieved by Archie, William, William and Finnley in the Lytham Heritage Centre Art Competition, winning their Year 3 and 4 categories, and therefore we achieved Best Joint School Overall Winner.
Excellence in Drama was demonstrated at the wonderfully humorous Mother's Day assembly, and the Year 3 and 4 performance of 'Hoodwinked' was superb.
Excellence in Music was demonstrated by the 48 individual performers at the Prep Music Concert, and all the juniors at the Let's Go Sing event. The Chamber Choir should be commended for entering their first two competitions this half term, and for also taking part so maturely in the Senior School's Cabaret last night.
Excellence in Sport was demonstrated in every match by the rugby, hockey, football, athletics and netball teams. Congratulations to the U11 Girls' Hockey Team for coming runners up in the AJIS Competition and Lancashire Cup, and the U11 Girls Netball Team for winning the LSA Cup.
Personally and socially, congratulations to all the children who went into the PTA Dragon's Den to bid for their ideas to be funded. Thank you so much to the PTA for organising this event as well as the Wine Tasting evening and the Spring Fair this half term.
Happy Easter everyone!

Head of Nursery and Preparatory School

Nursery

This week, Ladybirds have been focusing on Spring. We have been further developing our Language-rich skills when planting carrot seeds in our amazing Outdoor Learning environment, and being creative by decorating our own Spring chicks.

This week in Bees, we have been focusing on sound. We have done this by making our own musical shakers and using the instruments to play at song time.

We have also enjoyed playing in the mud-finding the different animals and the children made the sounds of the animals they find.

The Nursery Team

Reception

On the sunniest day of the week, the Reception children went down to the beach and had great fun building sandcastles, creating intricate moats and showing great perseverance skills. Some children decided to work by themselves whilst others worked as part of a team. One group decided to build a moat, but it soon became clear that help was needed and lots of the children joined in to make it really deep.

We finished off the afternoon using the parachute to play games using the beanbags and going under the parachute swapping places. A lovely afternoon using our local environment!

Miss Allen and Mrs Walsh

Year 1

Year 1 have been very busy measuring in their Maths and Science activities and have become very good at comparing and estimating. Mr Worthington’s challenge of trying to make the most efficient paper aeroplane gave the children a reason to practice measuring distance in metres and centimetres.

This week the children were challenged to find the heaviest things in the classroom and find out whether their estimates were correct. Some things were surprisingly heavy and others, deceptively light! Can you tell how heavy something is just by looking at it?

Year 2
Year 2 have ended the term in style with a wonderful trip to the Lowry in Salford. Having studied the artist this half term, Year 2 got the opportunity to see many of his original paintings. We took part in a wonderful workshop led by a knowledgeable artist who encouraged us to sketch landscapes and create our own collage. A great day out with several members of the public commenting on our behaviour and manners.

Well done Year 2, I am proud of you all. Happy Easter!
Year 3

And just like that another term done for Year 3!

The final week of term was once again a busy one, filled with a trip to Blackburn for Let’s Go Sing, a day out at Leighton Hall, a Year 3 and 4 Fylde Football Festival, and we were taught a variety of dances by the Year 10 Sports Leaders. We also produced a dramatic scene representing friendship in our Drama lesson.

Mrs Blinston and Mr Worthington

Year 4

It has been a crafty week in Year 4. We have been making our Easter cards and other Spring activities as well as our Save the Rainforest posters.
The week started with us singing at the Let's Go Sing Event in Blackburn. It was exciting going on the coach, having a practise on the stage and then performing to a full house. Great fun was had by all at Leighton Hall too.
Have a lovely Easter from all in Year 4!

Mrs Briggs

Year 5

This week in Computing, Year 5 presented their findings about the Titanic, including some great use of data- the children showed how their confidence is growing in these lessons.

Mr Avis was very happy with the effort put into homework, "Lots of excellent Geography topic work completed and handed in this week to include 'food diaries' and 'fast fashion' newspaper reports. Outstanding!"

Well done everyone for a super Spring term!

Mrs Whitaker

Year 6

Well done to Sophia for writing a wonderful essay linked to her current Science topic - discussing the adaptions of the polar bear. Sophia used the FOSIL, (Framework Of Skills for Inquiry Learning) to help plan and structure her brilliant discussion!

In Maths this week, the children have been consolidating their understanding of area by conducting a range of very tricky investigations. Well done to Alyssa, Lucy, Rowan, Sam, Freddie and Rupert for showing endless amounts of perseverance and determination to succeed.

In Drama, the children performed their polished 'slapstick' comedy routines to conclude this topic. Well done to Evie, Lucy, Sienna and Katie for their knockout performance!

Finally, Year 6 had a fabulous time making Easter cards in Art, wishing their nearest and dearest an Eggstraordinary Easter!

Mr Avis and Mr Rice

Achievement Assembly- Congratulations to all our Winners!

PTA Spring Fair

Thank you to Jordanna and her amazing team for organising the wonderful PTA Spring Fair! Donkeys, stalls, Easter Bonnet Parade, Egg Decorating Competition- a fun-filled afternoon!

Sports Round Up

Last Friday, our U9 Girls' footballers took part in the Wyre and Fylde Football Festival at AKS with 12 teams and 120 girls playing football- it was a great afternoon for all.

Monday saw AKS hosting the LSA Netball and Football Festival in glorious sunshine. With 10 schools all competing for the titles, team AKS were ready for the challenge. In the netball, the girls continued their impressive form, taking the crown once again - LSA Champions 2023! In the football, our boys squad continued their impressive form through to the Shield semi-final, where a nail biting penalty shoot out saw them lose to Lytham C of E.

On Wednesday, the re-arranged U9 Boys Football Festival took place at AKS, in very mixed weather conditions. Not to be deterred, 11 teams from across Wyre and Fylde gave it their all, with games end to end and goals galore.  AKS Team 1, made it through to the Cup semi-final where they unfortunately lost out on penalties to Lytham Hall Park. Well done to Team 2 boys who also competed on the day with lots of learning and development throughout all their games, reaching the Plate semi-finals.

Thank you to all players, parents and AKS staff who have made running all these fixtures possible, a big team effort from all and lots of opportunities for the children.

Mr Moretti

Let's Go Sing!

On Monday, a group 60 talented children from Years 3 to 6 took to the stage for Let's Go Sing at St George's Hall in Blackburn. It was magical to see the students so engaged in their singing- and they really did make AKS proud! Thank you to our wonderful staff for supporting the singers and for joining in with the singing too.
