THE MEMBER SHOW, MAY 18-JUNE 22, 2023

THE ELLENE SOUTHERLAND DIVERSE MEDIA AWARD

This award will be given for the first time this year at the Member Show.  It will apply to 3D art such as sculpture, pottery and silversmithing, and 2D art that is not painting such as mixed media, textiles and glasswork.

The award will be presented to a guild member whose entry shows the same spirit of adventure that characterized the work of our dear friend, Ellene Southerland.  Ellene explored many media, often combining two or more in a unique piece.  This award is intended to recognize and encourage media diversity among AAG members as well as honor her memory.

If you would like to donate to this award please send a check made out to AAG with "Ellene Southerland Award" in the memo line to Aiken Artist Guild, P.O. Box 148, Aiken SC 29802.  You can also make a donation on the AAG website. Thank you.

THE AIKEN ARTIST GUILD GALLERY

AT THE AIKEN CENTER FOR THE ARTS

Three Interpretations: En Plein Air
Bill Daniel, Sally Donovan, Andrew Murphy

It starts with morning coffee at the New Moon Cafe.

The three of us negotiate the location for the day’s paintings.

When painting in the open air, we may work near each other or establish some distance as we choose the composition of the day.  Once our music is decided upon, we enter our individual worlds.  We value camaraderie, manage the weather, commit to the time, and certainly enjoy painting “in the open air”.

Our personal histories have enhanced our interest in painting outside. Whether it is hiking, camping, or walking in the woods, we have always valued and appreciated being in nature.  it is through three interpretations that we transport our experiences to te present moment and align in the joy of painting en plein air.
