Palm Sunday

Dear Friends of Christ Church

This Sunday is Palm Sunday, when we remember the arrival of Jesus in Jerusalem, and then go on to hear the Passion Story, how Jesus died. It is quite important that these two contrasting stories are heard together in one service. One is of joy and the other of sadness, one of hope and the other of despair.

It took less than a week for the people to turn from praising Jesus to shouting for his crucifixion. So quickly their hearts and minds were turned. They welcomed Jesus into their city as a king, only to throw him out of the city to be killed as a criminal.

This week is called holy, because it is the most important in the Christian year. It will culminate in Easter Day and the celebration of the Resurrection, but not before we move through the key events of Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. I hope you will be able to join us for these special services, as recall Jesus sharing the Last Supper with his friends and washing their feet, and as we stand at the foot of the Cross to see him die. There can be no Easter without Holy Week, no Resurrection without the Cross.

May God lead you through this Holy Week and guide you through the dark valleys of life, that you might also rejoice on the hilltops.

With every blessing

Fr. John

Collect Prayer for Palm Sunday

Almighty and everlasting God,
who in your tender love towards the human race
sent your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ
to take upon him our flesh
and to suffer death upon the cross:
grant that we may follow the example
of his patience and humility,
and also be made partakers of his resurrection;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Annual General Meeting
Palm Sunday, 2 April at 12:00

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Christ Church Charitable Association and the Christ Church Association will be on this Sunday at 12:00pm. We hope that those of you who are on the Electoral Roll will be present in Church to join us. If you are not on the electoral roll you're also welcome to attend in church only but voting will be limited to electoral roll members.  The meeting will be following by an aperitif and discussion about fundraising.

Our AGM is taking place earlier than normal this year, as we have a number of issues on the agenda related to the interregnum and budget.

Christ Church Spring Sale

I did promise to give an update on the theme for the Spring sale and I am pleased to announce that the theme chosen is Renewal.  Springtime is one of the great renewals that we can see happening all around us but there are other renewals too, smaller but not less important, such as reconnecting with an out of touch friend or re reading a much loved book.  Renewal also means making something new, sometimes from unlikely objects to make them fresh and interesting.  To value the old by making something new.

I  hope you are finding your own renewal this Springtime and I look forward to seeing you at the Spring sale on Saturday 13th May from 10:30.  Stalls include brocante, books, cakes, jams and preserves, Spring wreaths and flowers, hot lunches, and a café.   Join us for a Spring Renewal.
