Dear Hope Horizon Families,

This week, we hit the ground running after break! We have held our monthly drills, teachers prepared progress notes and report cards, and teachers have been continuing to train and retrain on behavior plans. In addition, students have been steadily preparing for the upcoming FAST testing, and some students have started Florida State Alternative Assessments.

Next week, we will be welcoming families to campus on Monday evening at 4:00 for our Title I STEAM Night! We will also be welcoming a board member of the Escambia County Foundation to tour our therapeutic community garden and having our annual PBIS walkthrough. Finally, we will continue to work on reviewing interventions in MTSS and begin identifying students for Extended School Year (ESY) services. We look forward to a busy, yet, productive week!

Next months PBIS activity will be on Wednesday, March 29th. The event will now be a Read Across America Party! Start saving your points!

PBIS events will be 250 points for Elementary and 500 points for secondary students.

Counseling Corner

This week we are focusing on trust. Trust is firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something. It can also mean to believe that someone is good and honest and will not harm you, or that something is safe and reliable. The 3 C’s of building trust are: competence, character, and consistency. Competence is having knowledge of a skill, character is the mental and moral qualities unique to you, and consistency is behaving in the same and predictable way. These 3 related concepts work together to create trustworthiness. There are also many things that you can do to overcome trust issues. Starting slow, communicating your needs, trying therapy, and learning to trust yourself can help.

Applying This Concept At Home: Building Trust Within Your Family

One of the most important characteristics of a happy and loving family is trust between its members.

Be Open and Honest Whenever Possible: Obviously, there are certain subject matters that you should not discuss with your children but whenever developmentally appropriate sharing details about family experiences is an important part of communication.
Be Consistent: Establish clear and regular rules, expectations and routines in your family.
Be Reliable: Do not promise your children things that you cannot, or have no intention of delivering. This is the quickest way to break trust and negatively impact attachment.
Apologize: Model for your child that even grownups make mistakes-but also model how to problem solve those mistakes.
