Our Vision Statement

Our Lady of the Southern Cross Parish is a safe community of love, who believes in the power of the Holy Spirit to change lives, and forms disciples who bring people to Jesus.

As a disciple that belongs to our community I commit to grow by worshipping, learning, connecting, serving, giving and making disciples.

Fifth Sunday of Lent Year A

“To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” 1 CORINTHIANS 12:7

To receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit you must open your heart and invite Him in! Ask the Holy Spirit to guide your thoughts, words and actions every day! Be grateful for all the gifts God has given you! Regardless of our individual circumstances, God has given all of us many blessings. What we do with those gifts is our gift back to God! By generously sharing everything we have and everything we are, we become more “God-centered” and less “self-centered” and our lives truly reflect God’s light, love and mercy.

Message from Fr Baiyi

It is with sadness that I let you know Vanessa Comninos has resigned as Director of Evangelisation in our parish. Vanessa has been a valued member of our staff team since 2017. Before becoming a member of staff, she lovingly volunteered in many ministries in our parish. She has worked incredibly hard in her role and her strong faith and passion for evangelization has produced many fruits through different ministries: Alpha, Marriage Course, Encounter Youth, Children’s Liturgy and so on.

On behalf of our whole parish, I thank Vanessa for her contribution to the building of our parish. Even though she is stepping down from her staff role, she will remain in our parish. I wish her every success for whatever she does as a career in the future and will always pray for her and her loved ones. You will be dearly missed in the parish office, Vanessa.

As a result of the resignation of Vanessa, we will start the process of recruiting a new Director of Evangelisation very soon. The role will be advertised throughout the whole Archdiocese, including our own parish newsletter. Please keep an eye on it. We encourage all those who have a passion for evangelisation to apply for the role. More details will come soon.

Message from Vanessa

Lamp Light Media will be filming B-Roll footage of our parish this weekend, 26 March at 11am Mass. While footage of the Holy Mass is being filmed, we encourage parishioners to pray and worship as they would on any given Sunday. Some of the footage will be used to create promotional videos for our parish. As usual, all footage taken will be done so in accordance with Archdiocesan Safeguarding practices and the parish’s privacy policy.
As we prepare for the Easter Tridium, you are invited to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession). Fr Baiyi and Fr Gabriel will be available during the evening to administer the sacrament. To allow everyone the opportunity to receive this sacrament, we're inviting parishioners to select a time during the evening that suits best. Click here to book.
We are excited to have Fr Ray Sanchez lead our Lenten retreat and help us gain a deeper understanding of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  The retreat will be split into 2 x 1-hour talks with an afternoon tea break in between. You are welcome to bring something light to share for afternoon tea. Click here to book.

Ordained a priest in 1992, Fr Sanchez has worked across many aspects of ministry, including adult faith formation, retreat facilitation, sacramental preparation, hospital chaplaincy and high school chaplaincy. He was one of the founders of the Passionate Youth Retreat programme, which facilitates retreats in high schools across Queensland and New South Wales. Fr Sanchez currently leads and serves in the Passionate congregation based in Oxley.
Enrolment for the Sacrament of Confirmation is ongoing. The requirements to enrol include baptism and being in Year 3 or above. Please click here to enrol your child and download the "All You Need To Know" document. All sessions are compulsory. We look forward to journeying with all our families as we prepare for these very special moments in our child/children’s lives. For any queries, please email sacraments.springfield@bne.catholic.net.au or visit our website for more information.

The preparation for the sacrament of First Holy Communion will take place in term 4. This is for children who are in Year 4 and above and have already received the Sacrament of Confirmation. We will be in touch in due course.
Every week Fr Baiyi invites us to learn and commit to memory a biblical quote from the Sunday’s Gospel reading. This is a beautiful way to get to know the Bible better and to share our faith with others.
Come and join us for a casual dinner with Father Baiyi, our new parish priest, and get to know him better. It's a great opportunity to meet other guys and possibly discuss plans for a camping trip later this year. Just a heads up, you will need to bring some cash for your meal. To secure your spot, simply text Joseph on 0413 116 552. We can't wait to see you there!
The Archbishops Dinner for Men is an evening event that provides a space for men who are discerning their vocation to gather and connect with each other.

This year's dinner will be held on April 13th at Wynberg in New Farm. At the dinner, Archbishop Mark Coleridge (Archbishop of Brisbane) will share his personal journey to the priesthood to help you gain insight and wisdom into your own discernment and the questions you’re currently facing.

This event is a great opportunity for men to be inspired, ask questions, and continue their discernment journey.

The parish is reinstating the services of our children to the altar. If you have a child/children in year 5 or older, have received the sacraments (Baptism, Confirmation, Reconciliation and First Communion) and keen to actively participate in the Mass through service at the altar, kindly register your interest via email to springfield@bne.catholic.net.au and our acolytes will get in touch with you. We aim to have child altar servers during the Holy Week celebrations.

A VOCATION VIEW:

Seeing physically dead people return to life is not a common event. But Christians, serious about their vocation, are eager to help the "down and out" find new meaning in Christ and live a full life.
