Sunday School
Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
Children's Ministry COVID Precautions
Discovery Time (DT) is a short in-person Bible story time offered in the Sanctuary during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service, and is followed by Sunday School. Children attending DT will be asked to follow the same COVID precautions as those attending the service: i.e., full vaccination or testing within 72 hours of events at DCC. Everyone age 2 and over will be required to wear an N95, KN95 or KF94 mask while indoors at Sunday School. We have additional masks of this kind on hand.

For children who do not wish to go into the Sanctuary for DT, or who cannot be vaccinated or test, childcare will be provided outdoors and DT will be available for you to watch from home on the DCC YouTube channel. For all children attending Sunday School or other childcare sessions, please be sure to bring proof of vaccination for your children, or email a photo of their card to kate@dccpres.org.

During childcare for other church events, when children eat, they will eat outdoors unless it is too cold or dark. In these cases, children will eat indoors, socially distanced, with the windows open for ventilation.

Our childcare workers and volunteers are required to be fully vaccinated and masked when indoors, or in close proximity to children.

COVID Update: Policy Regarding Facial Masks
Masks are now optional at the 10:30 a.m. worship service.
Groups within the church may choose more stringent precautions for their meetings and events. Masks may be required for children in Sunday School.

If we find there is a resurgence of COVID cases in the community as reported by
Yolo County Health,
Session will require masks. That change will occur should the level of transmission go from MEDIUM to HIGH.

As always
  • if you have fever or symptoms of illness, please stay home
  • be sure you are up to date on available vaccines
  • practice good hand hygiene
  • respect those who choose to continue wearing masks
Thank you for your cooperation and patience with this process!

Transition for Our Transitional Presbyter, Rev. Dr. Mary Westfall
Note: Mary served DCC for about 18 months as an interim pastor.

Greetings dear members of North Central California Presbytery,

For the past 3 ½ years I have had the extraordinary experience of serving as your Transitional Presbyter. Now as I begin to approach the completion of my 4-year term, I feel the Spirit beckoning me elsewhere. With gratitude for the journey we have shared, May 15, 2023 will be my final day of work. Shortly thereafter, my husband and I will return to the east, to family and 30-year friendships.

What a journey we have had in these past few years, merging two entities to become a new presbytery, experiencing a global pandemic, facing civil unrest and social upheaval that rippled across our nation and region. What challenging and transformative times. Even in the face of so much change, we have sought to ground ourselves in the Isaiah 43 text:

“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth. Do you not perceive it?”

We can trust that God has been and will continue to be in our midst, breathing life into the weary places in our lives and congregations, providing strength and renewal when we feel weak, sheltering us with peace and guidance when the path seems unclear. Out of these challenging times God is re-making the church and invites us to participate in “the new.”

These times invite our courage, innovation, compassion, and trust as we seek to be faithful to the Risen One. I trust that together, as you continue to be inspired by the Holy Spirit, you will further grow into a thriving people of faith, the body of Christ, stretched across north central California, and you will be a blessing to the region.

In subsequent weeks, as I bring my ministry among you to a close, you will hear more from presbytery leadership as to the path ahead. Please know there are many wise and thoughtful leaders who will help discern the path ahead.

Thank you for the ways you have and will continue to show forth the love of God and the peace of Christ. You will remain in my prayers as the Spirit continues to do a new thing in you and within NCCP.

Your partner in ministry,

Mary Westfall, Transitional Presbyter

Cards may be sent to Mary at:

Grief Talking Sessions
Sundays through March 28
Pastor Derek's office after worship

In the wake of our statement made regarding your former pastor’s departure at our last congregational meeting in January, Pastor Derek will be offering talking sessions that allow for a safe space to discuss how his departure affected you, both individually and as a faith community.

We will be offering these in two ways:
(1)  All Committee and Ministry chairs are invited to make time in their respective next scheduled meetings for Pastor Derek to join them and facilitate a dialogue around this matter.
(2)  There are sign-up sheets in the Narthex to participate in one of 4 one-hour talking sessions each Sunday through March 26.

If you are interested in a Zoom group, please contact
Pastor Derek.

Session Update
On March 21 Session approved the formation of a task force to prepare a report on the feasibility of building affordable housing on the north end of our campus. This project is a dream for the future that would align with our social justice values and might possibly generate a future income stream for DCC. It's fun to dream and the task force will research whether this is even a possibility.

Session member Brad Barber is working to shepherd a renewed Adult Ministry at DCC. Please share your ideas with him.

A Celebration!
DCC's Earth Care Certification for the 8th Year

Davis Community Church was certified as an Earth Care Congregation by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)'s Presbyterian Hunger Program through February 2024. The Earth Care Congregation certification is designed to recognize churches that make the commitment to take seriously God’s charge to “till and keep” the garden.

This certification speaks to the serious commitment that we have made to care for God’s earth. To become an Earth Care Congregation, this congregation affirmed an Earth Care Pledge to integrate environmental practices and thinking into worship, education, facilities, and outreach. We submitted detailed information on steps taken in each area.

DCC is one of the 305 churches in our denomination that chose to dedicate themselves to intentional care of God’s earth this year. For more information on the Earth Care Congregations program visit www.pcusa.org/earthcarecongregations.

The work of the Presbyterian Hunger Program is possible thanks to your gifts to One Great Hour of Sharing.
