Special Friday March 24, 2023 Blast

Greetings, Wolverines. Although basketball is pretty much over and we are going into football mode, following is information about other athletic events that may be of interest to you…and we don’t want you to forget about us!

Congratulations to Carol Hutchins! The Michigan Athletic Department is renaming its softball stadium in her honor. The home of Michigan softball will hereinafter be designated as Alumni Field at Carol Hutchins Stadium. The venue will continue to reside in the Wilpon Baseball and Softball Complex and flanked by the Donald R, Shepherd Softball Center. When you’re a large university, it gets pretty tricky naming stuff. Go Blue! Hutch is one of your favorite speakers and an all-around fine person. A good time to support softball and the Softball Academy. The dinner is on April 28 at the Jack Roth Club. Reservations are required.

No. 1 seed Michigan Hockey will play No. 4 seed Colgate at Allentown, PA on Friday evening beginning with coverage at 8 pm on ESPN 2. No. 2 seed and host Penn State will play No. 3 seed, Michigan Tech. The two semifinal winners will play on Sunday, March 26 for a spot in the Frozen Four to be held April 6-8 in Tampa, FL.

Congratulations to Women’s Gymnastics for winning the Big Ten Tournament. Now on to NCAA. Congratulations to Men’s Gymnastics for winning the Big Ten Tournament and they’re on to NCAA.

The Big Ten Conference released its winter 2023 Academic All Big Ten team with 106 University of Michigan athletes earning the distinction. Students maintain a 3.0 GPA. Students with a 3.7 GPA are eligible for the Distinguished Scholar Award announced this summer.

A great weekend for Lacrosse with both men and women playing. Attendance for both teams has been high and the sun may actually shine. Women’s games are free. A good weekend for those who follow tennis. Matches begin on Friday and continue through Sunday. Free admission. Michigan baseball begins a three-game series against Penn State on Friday.

Finally, congratulations to Mason Parris on winning the heavyweight national title on Saturday. Way to go, Mason.

Miss you all. See you on April 17 with speakers Jack Harbaugh and Jon Jansen. Reminder, guests accompanied by a member are not charged a fee.

Go Blue.
