Plastic Pollution and Community Solutions
Civics Awareness Series sponsored by Cantigny and the League of Women Voters

March 28, 2023Roselle, IL—Cantigny Park in partnership with the Leagues of Women Voters of Central Kane County, Glen Ellyn, Naperville, Roselle-Bloomingdale, and Wheaton invite the public to their next Civic Awareness Series program on Wednesday, April 12 from 7-8 pm.

The League of Women Voters welcomes an expert panel, moderated by Daily Herald environmental reporter Jenny Whidden. The panel will examine the harmful environmental impact of plastic products and packaging - and the urgent need for action.

Versatility and durability make plastic products and packaging a constant part of our day. But these conveniences cause serious problems for the environment. Our reliance on plastics is hurting the health of our planet and ourselves. The Panel will discuss:

  • What is plastic and why we should care?
  • Our waste hauling system and the recovery of certain plastics
  • How to reduce and reuse
  • Potential Illinois legislation to address plastic pollution

Guest panelists:

  • Jacquelyn Casazza, President, and Co-Founder, Go Green Glen Ellyn
  • Jen Walling, Executive Director, Illinois Environmental Council
  • Kay McKeen, Founder and Executive Director, School and Community Assistance for Recycling and Composting Education (SCARCE)
  • Walter Willis, Executive Director of the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County

The free presentation is offered in person and online. It will be held in the Le Jardin room at Cantigny Park located at 1s151 Winfield Road in Wheaton. Register in advance to attend in person and park for free upon arrival. The program will also be held virtually via ZOOM. Register in advance to participate via ZOOM. This program includes built-in closed captioning through Zoom.
