The roads are plowed, the trails are groomed, and the clouds are lifting. It’s going to be a gorgeous day here in the Glen. Track or skate skiing. SnowCoach or tubing. Snowshoe or shopping. Today is the day. All trails were groomed this morning except Dugway Trace (we’ll leave that one as is for you folks wanting to throw down some powder 8’s).
So there you go. Packed powder on the trails and fresh in the trees. The staff has been exploring new routes of piste when the base is stable. Should be good today. Ski around in between Great Grumpy and Libby. Really fun tree skiing in there. There is always time for exploration on our trails. Roger has plans to burn a couple of laps on the Aqueduct loop this morning with the roller. It’s an advanced 5-kilometer loop that is dog friendly. Give it a try!
Nordic Nate’s Sunday Sermon (questionable Nordic History and whatnot) – a short shout-out to the folks that cut the CCC trails in the 1930s. Did you know Goffstown, Franconia, and Pinkham Notch hold the most original trails cut by the Civilian Conservation Corps? Over the span of the 9 years that the bulk of the work was done, close to 3 million people worked to clear these trails.
Even today many enthusiasts take time to maintain these backcountry routes. I’m only bringing this up because I think this next week (yes, it’s almost April!!) could be a great time to explore these trails (either active or abandoned). As we climb towards 150 inches of snowfall this season – you may want to go find yourself on some of these original trails and imagine the amount of handwork that was done to clear the land. Search the internet for CCC trails near you!
JUST GO SKIING!
